Field Service Technician III
to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our
Field Service Technician III's
role is toindependently lead and perform advanced testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems and components, including circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, relays, and protection/control equipment. This position requires deep technical expertise, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to interpret data, resolve complex field issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities•Test and maintain LV to HV systems (480V–600kV): switchgear, breakers (air, SF6, vacuum), cables, relays, motor controls, and transformers.
•Perform diagnostics using Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi-Pot, Doble, TTR, Winding & Insulation Resistance, Contact Resistance.
•Test relays (electromechanical, solid-state, microprocessor) and verify protection logic.
•Lead crews by working hands-on and managing daily tasks, safety, and job scope.
•Submit daily JSAs, tailboards, and service tickets using RMS reporting tools.
•Operate test gear, analyze results, and identify system issues or failures.
•Follow complex schematics, one-lines, and wiring diagrams with precision.
•Prepare/review test reports, service logs, and commissioning docs.
•Coordinate with engineers, PMs, and clients to resolve site issues.
•Represent RMS as senior tech, ensuring quality and customer alignment.
•Support upgrades, retrofits, and commissioning: wiring, testing, relay setup.
•Enforce safety: PPE, LOTO, OSHA, NFPA, and RMS standards.
•Maintain tools and job-site inventory; report any issues.
•Mentor Tech I & II; assist with training and onboarding.
•Drive RMS vehicles safely and follow all policies.
•Flex for project needs—OT, weekends, holidays, nights.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
•High school diploma or GED required.
•Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Electrical Tech, Power Systems, or related field preferred.
•3–5 years of field experience testing, maintaining, and commissioning power systems up to 500kV; related experience considered.
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
•NETA Level II preferred; journeyman or similar credentials also accepted.
•Skilled in troubleshooting complex electrical issues using advanced test sets.
•Experienced with Doble, TTR, VLF, Power Factor, DC Hi-Pot, and curve testing.
•Deep understanding of P&C schemes (feeder, transformer, bus, breaker failure).
•Can read and apply schematics, wiring diagrams, and spec sheets.
•Familiar with PowerDB or similar reporting software.
•Able to lead crews, manage tasks on-site, and mentor junior techs.
•Follows all safety protocols (OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO, RMS policies).
•Clear communicator for reports, customer updates, and technical guidance.
•Physically fit for lifting (up to 50 lbs.), ladders, confined spaces, and varied conditions.
•Strong customer service skills; able to explain technical info clearly.
•Well-organized with solid time management and decision-making skills.

•Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests and a pre-employment criminal background check.
•Must be willing to travel; minimum 75%.
•Must be able to drive daily to customer job sites and be available for periodic overnight travel.
•Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.
•Must be able to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
•Valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions
This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.
Physical Requirements
The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
