The Field Engineer is responsible for monitoring activities for assigned construction sites/projects. Inspects construction site daily and works with vendors to schedule deliveries, and to ensure that materials are delivered on time. Tracks and records site conditions, project progress, earthwork balances, trucking and aggregate deliveries. Reports project issues, scope changes, and opportunities to the Project Manager for review. Works to ensure that all state, federal, and industry codes or specifications are followed. Also reports to management any deviations and works on corrections. This position reports to the Project Manager.

Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.

•Provide support to Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager regarding project material controls including delivery dates, construction schedules and design requirements to ensure additional costs are minimized.
•Work with the Project Manager to maintain business/work plans.
•Maintain and track all field related action items such as; minutes of contractor safety meetings, contractors' superintendent's daily reports, weather log, punch list activities, delays, NCR’s, PCO’s, and verify completion.
•Participate in daily Teambook safety meetings.
•Utilize software management tools to maintain all project documentation.
•Record and track stats relative to materials/quantities etc.
•Track and manage all components of trucking and hauling with accuracy in quantities, coding, time and measurement.
•Catalog project closeout material, O&M manuals, and redlines to owner once project is complete.
•Understand and obtain all necessary work permits.
•Schedule, receive, and verify material deliveries
•Verify shipping invoices are correct with what is delivered to the site.
•Maintain an up-to-date inventory list of materials on hand.
•Help Superintendents and Foreman track costs correctly by providing accurate job numbers and phase codes.
•Measure work and provide final quantities for invoicing and reporting to the customer.
•Verify the billing and correct variances of the equipment on site is correct against the reports provide by the equipment department weekly.
•Report any field discrepancies to Project Manager for review.
•Take pictures, record field progress, and files findings for future reference.
Requirements and Qualifications:
•0-3 years prior construction site work experience is a plus. Specific experience in earthwork and/or utility construction is preferred.
•Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures related to heavy civil construction.
•Strong organizational and time management skills.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels from client, management, to workers and sub-contractors.
•Able to understand plans and specifications.
•Attention to detail and ability to recognize and correct discrepancies.
•Strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
•Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as being able to work independently.
•Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
•Understanding of Viewpoint, Primavera P6/Microsoft Project scheduling software, Bid2Win a plus
•Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
