The Fiber Splicing Technician is responsible for performing fiber optic cable preparation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation in both indoor and outdoor environments. This position requires technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. The technician will work closely with engineers, customers, and team members to ensure projects are carried out on time and in compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
- Prepping and fusion or mechanical splicing of SM and MM fiber optic cables, in both outdoor and indoor settings.
- Construct proper splice cases (pressurized and non-pressurized), using all types and sizes of cable, including grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
- Perform mid-sheath ring cut splices on both loose tube buffer and ribbon fiber.
- Test and troubleshoot fiber using OTDR, optical power meter, tone meter, fiber identifier, and scope.
- Review and interpret underground and aerial cable records on maps and in the field.
- Create materials lists based on project scope, order and compile materials for crews in advance.
- Ensure all work conforms to quality control guidelines, OSHA, FCC, NESC, and NEC regulations, and company policies.
- Utilize Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel for communication and reporting.
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
- Ensure all assets are clean, operational, and professional for operational efficiency.

- Minimum of 2 years of fiber splicing experience.
- Working knowledge of various splicing tools, equipment, and techniques.
- Deep knowledge of fiber optic testing, including Power Meters and OTDR.
- Safety training as required by project scope.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to safely operate company vehicles, bucket trucks, splice labs, and trailers.
Expect 50 hours a week with a start time of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM M-F with occasional overtime as needed.
The Fiber Splicing Technician reports to the I&E Manager. There are several career paths available to the right individual including moving up to the Industrial Controls Manger, over to the Industrial Controls field team, electrical team for off-site project work, safety, or other operations.
