The Exploration Geologist will report to the Senior Exploration Geologists and is responsible for various duties relating to on-site drilling, core logging, and date interpretation. The schedule for this position is 15 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 13 days off.
- Oversee surface and underground drilling programs from the planning stage to the interpretation stage. This includes overseeing drill rigs and drill crews for geology group, creating drill plans, providing logistical support, modeling, and presenting final data.
- Perform surface and underground mapping and sampling campaigns over prospect areas.
- Interpret and manage geochemical data.
- Responsible for accurate Core logging and sampling.
- Create and communicate results and progress via presentations and written reports to Senior Exploration Geologist.
- Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
- Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust and takes accountability.
- Minimum of 3 years mine geology experience.
- BS degree in Geology or equivalent discipline.
- Ability to identify rocks and minerals in a field setting.
- Basic understanding of geologic processes and structural settings, sampling techniques, and analytical processes.
- Good oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Skilled at the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint and Excel Spreadsheets.
- Experience in the use of GIS software.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.
- Willingness to assist others, adapt to changing conditions, and proactively solve problems in a dynamic and inclusive work environment.
- Previous mine exploration geology experience.
- MSc degree in applicable field of study
- Experience in use of 3D modeling software like Vulcan, Leapfrog, etc.
- Preference given to Alaska residents.
