Job Summary
The Dragline Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a dragline to excavate and move overburden, coal, and other materials in surface mining operations. The operator plays a critical role in maintaining production targets while adhering to safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
Duties
•Operate a dragline to remove overburden and expose coal seams, ensuring optimal positioning and material removal for efficient extraction.
•Monitor bucket positioning and swing path to maximize efficiency and avoid structural damage or equipment stress.
•Maintain constant awareness of pit conditions, bench height, highwalls, and other hazards while operating.
•Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and perform routine maintenance (e.g., greasing, cleaning) to ensure equipment reliability.
•Communicate clearly with ground crews and supervisors via radio or hand signals to coordinate digging and dumping activities.
•Follow precise instructions regarding dig sequences and material placement.
•Maintain accurate records of loads and equipment inspections as required.
•Promptly report any mechanical, electrical, or safety concerns to the supervisor or maintenance team.
•Assist mechanics and maintenance crews with on-site repairs or adjustments when necessary.
•Adhere to all MSHA and company safety regulations.
Qualifications
•Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience operating a dragline in a surface mining environment.
•Familiarity with large-scale surface mining equipment and procedures.
•Proven ability to follow safety protocols and respond calmly in emergency situations.
•Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong situational awareness.
Physical Demands:
•Regularly required to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
•Frequently required to use hands for controls and perform equipment inspections.
•Occasionally required to walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
•Specific vision abilities include depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
•Work is performed outdoors in a surface mining environment exposed to extreme weather, noise, dust, and vibration.
•Exposure to moving mechanical parts and large-scale mining equipment is frequent.
•Safety gear and compliance with all safety policies are required at all times.

Additional Requirements:
•Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and extended shifts as needed to meet production goals.
