Wage Range: $30–$40 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
KU Power Group is hiring for the position of Excavator Operator within our Utility Construction Division. We are seeking a skilled, safety-conscious operator who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and takes pride in delivering quality work. Reporting to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavators used in the installation of underground utility infrastructure. You will work closely with crews to complete trenching, backfilling, grading, and other key excavation tasks on utility construction sites.
- Operating excavators (various sizes) to dig trenches for hydro, telecom, and other underground utilities
- Trenching around live utilities with precision and care
- Performing grading, backfilling, and site preparation as directed
- Conducting daily equipment inspections, performing basic daily maintenance and reporting maintenance needs
- Maintaining a clean and safe worksite
- Assisting with general labour tasks when equipment is not in use
- Interpreting construction drawings and utility locates
- Communicating effectively with ground crews and supervisors
- Minimum 3 years of excavator operating experience in underground utility or civil construction
- Strong knowledge of safe digging practices around live utilities (hydro, gas, water, telecom)
- Ability to operate excavators in tight urban work zones with precision
- Valid G Driver’s License (DZ or AZ preferred) with a clean driving abstract
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and utility locates
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
- Willingness to assist with manual tasks and other duties as needed
- Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
- Commitment to safety and professionalism on all job sites
