Excavator Crane Operator – Scrap Metal Yard

Job Summary

We are a scrap metal recycler in Oshkosh seeking a full-time Excavator Crane Operator with experience in the scrap metal industry. We operate excavator-style cranes equipped with magnets and grapples, not traditional tower cranes. Experience using magnet cranes to handle and sort scrap is essential.

This is ahands-on role that includes unloading scrap brought in by the general public,sorting materials, and operating heavy equipment in an outdoor yard environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate excavator-style material handlers with magnet attachments and grapples

- Safely and efficiently unload customer vehicles bringing in scrap metal

- Load and unload trailers and semi-trucks

- Sort and move scrap materials using both equipment and by hand

- Direct customers to proper drop-off zones

- Communicate with the scale room to assess and process incoming loads

- Maintain clean, organized scrap piles and a safe work environment

- Monitor load quality and follow company safety procedures

What We’re Looking For

- Experience operating magnet cranes and excavator-style scrap handlers

- Previous work in the scrap metal or recycling industry preferred

- Skilled with additional equipment such as shears, wheel loaders, and forklifts

- Basic knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metal types and grades

- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently

- Excellent customer service and communication skills

- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

- Strong focus on safety, both personal and team-oriented

- Positive attitude and team player

Compensation & Benefits

- Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour (based on experience)
