Equipment Operator

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Equipment Operator. Performs responsible semi-skilled equipment operation and trades work in the operation of a large motorized equipment and construction and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, and in landscaping and collection of trash and yard waste. An employee in this class operates a backhoe, loader, or other medium equipment independently or with a street and maintenance crew. Work includes performing maintenance and servicing of equipment used. Work also includes assisting with a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks when assigned to a crew. The employee is subject to hazards associated with public works including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, odors, dusts, mists, and oils. Work is performed under regular supervision and is observed occasionally while in progress or upon completion.

Graduation from high school/GED with considerable experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A NC commercial driver’s license is required or ability to obtain one within twelve (12) months. Salary range: $43,667 - $65,501 with starting salary DOQ.
