About the Role:
The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of industrial, construction, and fleet equipment to ensure operational reliability and compliance with safety standards. This role supports UPS Industrial Services field and shop operations by minimizing equipment downtime, ensuring safety compliance, and extending the lifecycle of company assets.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and electrical systems on industrial and construction equipment (e.g., forklifts, aerial lifts, welders, generators, compressors, and heavy trucks).
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled services to maintain optimal equipment performance and prevent breakdowns.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective actions to reduce recurrence.
- Maintain and update maintenance logs, service records, and inspection forms in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all repairs are performed according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Order, receive, and track parts and supplies needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Collaborate with operations and project teams to prioritize equipment repairs based on project schedules.
- Perform field service calls to job sites to diagnose and repair equipment on location.
- Conduct safety inspections on all company-owned equipment and tools to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and client requirements.
- Provide input on equipment replacement or upgrades to improve performance and reliability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop and in field service vehicles.
- Train operators on proper care and basic troubleshooting of equipment when requested.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 5 plus years of hands-on mechanic experience with industrial/construction equipment, fleet vehicles, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and electrical systems.
- Experience using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical manuals.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required.
- Ability to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and other heavy equipment safely.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and other safety regulations as they apply to equipment maintenance.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
- ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck or Equipment Repair.
- NCCER Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Certification.
- OSHA 10/30 or other relevant safety training.
- Welding and fabrication experience for minor equipment repairs.
- Indoor and outdoor shop/field environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and industrial hazards.
- Requires lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
- May require after-hours or weekend work to meet operational needs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
- Ability to stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
