Eversource is committed to the highest standards of environmental stewardship. In all aspects of our business – we strive to manage the impact of our operations as stewards of our environment. Licensing & Permitting provides project support for all maintenance and new construction projects conducted by Eversource, which include development of a permitting strategy, outreach and consultation with local, state, and federal agencies, contracting and supervision of outside consultant services, ensuring regulatory compliance, observing the company's BMPs and overseeing mitigation requirements. All responsibilities are performed with an attention to cost and schedule.

The Sustainability and Environmental Affairs Department uses co-ops to support the Licensing & Permitting staff. Students will conduct environmental reviews using GIS mapping on incoming maintenance work and new projects for both electric and gas operations. These maps will help determine the permits necessary for construction projects and protection needed for wetland resource areas, endangered species, flood zones, and hazardous sites and materials. Students will also prepare maintenance notification letters to ensure clear communication between the company and regulatory agencies on project scope. In addition, students may conduct field work and obtain samples (soil or water) for site pre-characterization and perform construction compliance inspections.

The co-op student will work primarily at the Westwood, MA facility. However, the co-op will be required to visit area stations, new construction sites, and company Right-of-Ways to inspect and maintain the surrounding environment’s resource areas as well as supervise consultant groups. The bulk of the work will require the co-op to work with Sustainability and Environmental Affairs Department Personnel, Engineering and Operations.

The co-op should be at least a second-year student majoring in Environmental Science, Engineering, GIS, or a similar discipline. The student should possess a valid driver’s license and have a personally owned vehicle to facilitate site inspections as necessary. This is a 6-month, 40 hours a week, co-op and the student should be able to support this schedule.
