The EHS Specialist at Ironsmith Fire will help nurture our safety-first culture. This role focuses on learning the ropes of safety management, supporting efforts to reduce workplace risks, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You'll assist with workers' compensation processes, maintain safety records, and work closely with our team and clients to promote a safe work environment. The EHS Specialist administratively reports to the Branch Manager and operationally works under the direction of the company EHS Manager.
Support the handling of workers' compensation claims, learning how to process them effectively and in line with legal standards, reporting progress to the EHS Manager. Assist in researching and building a panel of trusted physicians, ensuring they meet our standards for employee care, with guidance from the EHS Manager.
Accompany injured employees to medical appointments (which may occasionally involve driving them), ensuring proper treatment and transparent communication, reporting outcomes to the EHS Manager as needed.
Help maintain accurate OSHA logs and learn the process for reporting safety incidents, consulting with the EHS Manager for accuracy and compliance.
Collaborate with colleagues and clients to implement strategies that prevent accidents and promote safety, updating the EHS Manager on initiatives and results.
Embrace and promote a positive safety culture that aligns with our core values, acting as a supportive team member rather than an enforcer, seeking EHS Manager input when needed.
Be open to traveling to branch offices or remote job sites as required, coordinating with the EHS Manager for scheduling and priorities.
Build a foundation in safety management, growing into a proactive advocate for employee well-being and client relations, with regular check-ins with the EHS Manager to track development.
Conduct regular job site visits with a scorecard, communicate findings with the on-site General Contractor (GC), and report results to the EHS Manager and Operations Manager.
Able to take and pass the OSHA 510 course, with support from the EHS Manager to prepare and succeed.
Eagerness to learn and contribute to safety programs, seeking EHS Manager feedback to improve.
Strong attention to detail for analyzing safety data and supporting decision-making, with EHS Manager oversight as needed.
Clear verbal and written communication skills to share safety ideas and build trust with colleagues, reporting to the EHS Manager on key interactions.
Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and lead by example, consulting the EHS Manager for alignment with company goals.
Willingness to adapt and grow as you gain experience in safety practices and regulations, with EHS Manager guidance to ensure compliance.
Associate's degree (or equivalent work experience) in Safety Management, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
Minimum of 1-2 years in a similar role, preferably in the construction industry. Knowledge of tracking and recording of managing OSHA compliance and handling workers' compensation claims.
Experience in developing and maintaining physician panels is preferred but not required.

Ability to move around various work environments, including office settings, industrial sites, construction sites, and healthcare facilities.
Must be able to travel by car, plane, or other modes of transportation to attend meetings, training, and medical visits at various locations.
Ability to handle and manipulate objects and tools, which may be necessary for inspection or operation of safety equipment.
Must have adequate vision and hearing to recognize hazards and respond accordingly. Ability to withstand long hours standing or walking, particularly when conducting site visits or attending long medical consultations.
Ability to occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, especially when handling safety equipment or materials.
