Environmental Analyst / Specialist / Engineer

This role may be filled as an Environmental Engineer, Analyst, or Specialist depending on educational background, experience, and qualifications.

The position is designed to be based at GA Power Corporate Headquarters @ 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA, with an expectation to be in an office setting or at a customer location four (4) days per week and as additionally required. -HOWEVER — It can also, possibly, be based ANYWHERE IN GEORGIA (GA)!*

Job Description

The Environmental Analyst / Specialist / Engineer is responsible for developing, communicating, and implementing environmental compliance, remediation, emergency response, and waste-related environmental programs and strategies for company business units and facilities.

This position will represent the Company before regulatory agencies, during inspections, and in interactions with external groups and the public.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as the leader and subject matter expert for environmental project management, remediation corrective action strategies, Storm Emergency Restoration Preparation (SERP), and emergency spill response.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including the Georgia Solid Waste Management Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Recovery Act (CERCLA), Georgia Hazardous Sites Response Act (HSRA), and Georgia Hazardous Waste Management Act.
Develop and implement compliance strategies, including creating Environmental Guidelines and leading compliance training.
Manage investigations and cleanups under HSRA, Voluntary Remediation Program, and Brownfield programs.
Oversee compliance audits, remediation projects, corrective actions, groundwater monitoring, spill response, and regulatory notifications.
Conduct environmental due diligence for company-owned sites and properties under consideration for purchase or sale.
Monitor legislative and regulatory activities affecting company operations and liaise with Southern Company environmental personnel on relevant issues.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies and external groups to advocate for informed and constructive regulations.
Review and support company compliance with environmental programs, reporting findings to management and business units.
Build partnerships with business units and facilities management to implement effective environmental programs.
Support the Company's environmental policies and stewardship initiatives.


Job Requirements

Comprehensive knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, including HSRA, RCRA, CERCLA, and PCB Management, with preferred experience in GA EPD, UST Management, VRP, and Brownfield management.
Experience with state and federal environmental regulations, including direct interaction with regulatory agencies and regulatory reporting.
Ability to synthesize and communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Capability to work independently with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule, including non-traditional hours and travel.
Strong judgment and problem-solving skills for decision-making and implementing solutions.
Experience in project and contract management, including oversight of third-party service providers.

Educational Requirements

BS or BA degree in engineering or an equivalent science-related field (e.g., biology, chemistry, geology, or environmental science).


Experience Requirements


Required Experience:

+ Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in environmental project management, due diligence, compliance, auditing, emergency response, or remediation. Candidates with additional experience are encouraged to apply.

+ Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and management of subcontractors.

+ Knowledge and experience with environmental laws, regulations, and compliance practices, including interaction with regulators.


Preferred Experience:

+ Working knowledge of Distribution, Transmission, or Generation operations.

+ Experience in waste characterization, transport, disposal, and emergency spill response.

+ Professional License or Certification in a related area.

+ 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
