Job: SK Geotechnical is a leading geotechnical engineering and materials testing company in Montana and is currently seeking a self-motivated individual with a positive attitude to join our team as an engineering technician. As described below, the successful candidate must be capable of performing a wide variety of field and laboratory materials testing, inspection, and reporting. For those applicants with little experience, SK Geotechnical has a detail-oriented training program matching the needs of the new technician.
Description: Effectively perform all engineering technician duties and responsibilities as described below. Perform field work on construction sites and laboratory tests in office, and prepare reports for clients. Must have a positive attitude, be honest with all aspects of work and communication, and be willing to occasionally travel.
Specific duties include:
•Uses safe work practices.
•After training Performs all materials testing on construction projects, including compaction tests, concrete tests, rebar inspection, fireproofing inspection, and all other types of field services. Construction experience is highly desirable.
•Performs all types of laboratory testing, including Proctors, gradations, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, consolidation, and all other lab tests.
•Input test results into software (primarily Microsoft Excel), review to 100 percent accuracy.
•Reads/understands project plans and specifications and performs tests to those specifications.
•Informs client with test results and scheduling as requested.
•Informs supervisor or engineering staff if on-site conditions or practices appear questionable.
•Assists with maintaining test equipment in accordance with SK Geotechnical's accreditation, manufacturer's and/or test specifications.
•Reviews daily reports for accuracy and final reporting.
•Maintains accurate records of chargeable and non-chargeable time.
•Maintains a clean lab and company vehicles.
•Occasionally assists geotechnical engineers on field and laboratory work, such as staking borings, surveying, percolation tests, loading equipment, etc.
•Out-of-town work will be required (up to about 20 percent), including day trips as well as occasional larger materials testing projects.
•Assists with maintaining vehicles.
Requirements:
•Computer and calculator skills.
•Must be able to lift 75 pounds and operate a wheelbarrow.
•Ability to drive a standard cab 1/2-ton pickup-truck.
•Good communication skills.
•Ability to effectively communicate results and site conditions to materials manager and other stakeholders.

Salary:
•$22 to $29 per hour depending on experience and capabilities.
•Many opportunities for overtime pay (1.5 times per hour) beyond 40 hour week.
