The Operator position is located at Marathon Pipe Line’s Land Terminal facilities in Long Beach and Signal Hill, California. This position works in and around petroleum products and connecting pipelines executing Operations & Logistics and periodic measurement activities, as well as other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will perform such duties as: facilitating and monitoring pipeline and tank movements and conducting product sampling; tank switches and cuts; assure accordance with all regulations in support of API Product Quality, DOT, Environmental, Safety and Regulatory compliance. Travel, call-outs, and overtime will be required on an as-needed basis. The Operator is a union represented position and the successful applicant will be required to work rotating 12 hour shifts (nights weekends and holidays).
- The Operator will perform tasks associated with pipeline movements and measurements, perform duties to assure safe loading/unloading of petroleum products at a truck rack, pipeline delivery/receipts, storage and quality testing of hydrocarbon type petroleum products along with training activities, minor maintenance activities, tank level gauging, terminal product inventories, interacts with regulatory agencies/customers to assist in receipt and delivery of product, participates in communicating safety plans and procedures to various parties, internally and externally, as well as emergency response efforts.
- The Operator is required to complete all required training, and perform work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner in accordance with all Environmental, Safety and Regulatory requirements.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- An associate’s degree in a technical field preferred.
- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Proficiency in basic computer skills is expected.
- Previous pipeline experience is highly preferred.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces for an extended period of time.
- Physical demands include pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds
- Work at elevated heights
- Climbing up/down ladders and stairs
- Bending, squatting, twisting at waist, wrist flexion, and overhead reaching in addition to seated computer based work
