As the Engineering Technical Leader for the Reactor Internals Hardware Design Team, you will lead a team of engineers who design and evaluate pressure vessel internals to support the ongoing operation and performance of the existing BWR Nuclear Fleet. Internals Hardware is subjected to stringent nuclear, quality, and regulatory standards and could be the difference between a power plant continuing operation or permanently shutting down. In this role, you will provide technical guidance, oversee project scheduling and resource planning, develop talent and depth through mentoring, and act as the point of contact between your engineering team and internal and external customers.
- Knowledge and expertise of mechanical designs based on product and customer requirements, industry codes and standards, and operating environment within defined schedule and cost limits.
- Creation of schedules and estimates for projects to drive the Reactor Internals Hardware design and qualification process, meeting business and customer needs.
- Oversee 3D model development, access and clearance studies, analysis and calculations, drawings, design, fabrication and test specifications, evaluations, and reports regarding hardware and component design.
- Manage and facilitate collaboration with the Modification Tooling Design Team, Analysis Teams, Field Deployment Teams, and Engineering and Services Business leadership to deliver designs that meet our standards for Nuclear Quality and Safety
- Participate in emergent issue support of customers during Outage Season to help solve challenging problems with technical guidance and fast-paced evaluate, execute, output response.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 10 years expertise in mechanical design and drafting practices (2D drawings, 3D modeling) in a commercial setting
- The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internally as required up to 10%
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment
- Strong mechanical aptitude, desire to innovate and solve problems with mechanical design
- Finite Element Analysis experience is preferred
- Nuclear industry experience, understanding of nuclear reactor components is highly desirable
- Communicate progress, ideas, plans, and output effectively
- Experience designing with nuclear quality materials
- Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code and its application to design and repair of Nuclear components
- Knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing
- Knowledge of bolted joints and weld design preferred
- Ability to understand and communicate technical content to a wide variety of stakeholders: engineers, project managers, product managers, as well as business and engineering leadership
- Strong project planning, scheduling, and execution experience as an engineer or engineering team lead
- Ability to successfully lead multi-disciplined teams on first-of-a-kind projects
The base pay range for this position is $112,000-160,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 8/15/2025.
The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
