Engineering Manager

The ideal candidate will work with Engineering Manager and engineering staff to complete all projects both capitol and internal. Work towards growth of the engineering team. Must be able to travel frequently to our facilities in canada (North Bay, Saskatoon, and Sturgeon Falls) Successful candidate must have:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Oversee the Maintenance Department
•Lead and supervise the maintenance team, ensuring optimal performance.
•Develop, implement, and monitor planned maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
•Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance processes to sustain operational efficiency.
•Oversee Engineers and the Senior Project Engineer
•Provide guidance and support to engineering staff and the Senior Project Engineer to ensure projects adhere to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
•Facilitate collaboration across teams, resource allocation, and project execution.
•Manage all aspects of project budgets, planning, and implementation.
•Research & Development (R&D)
•Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and staff to expand research and development efforts.
•Oversee all R&D processes, including experimental design, data analysis, and process improvements.
•Introduce innovative solutions and technologies to advance product development and ground support technologies.
•Maintain a strong metallurgical knowledge base, including expertise in steel grades, properties, and testing procedures.
•Build mechanical property knowledge, such as yield, ultimate tensile strength (UTS), elongation, and Young’s Modulus.
Functional / Technical Abilities:
•Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the activities and operations of the engineering and maintenance departments.
•Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for all technical work performed, ensuring adherence to industry guidelines such as ASTM and CSA standards.
•Assign, coordinate, and review technical work across departments and project teams, including engineering staff, Senior Project Engineer, and the maintenance team.
•Recruit and oversee the development of staff, ensuring their competence aligns with organizational needs and standards.
•Participate directly in the design, development, and inspection of technical projects as needed.
•Mentor and support engineering and maintenance staff, fostering professional growth and teamwork.
Communication:
•Exhibit strong and professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, management, clients, and other stakeholders.
•Prepare clear and punctual reports, share ideas effectively, and demonstrate good listening skills.
•Deliver technical presentations to customers with or without the sales team and ensure technical clarity.
•Coordinate effectively with internal teams, including sales, purchasing, quality control, production, accounting, and human resources, to align project objectives and business needs.
General:
•Apply strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues efficiently.
•Utilize advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CAD/SolidWorks.
•Perform testing and inspections at domestic and international sites, including underground mine environments.
•Maintain knowledge of product offerings, equipment functionality, and manufacturing practices.
•Conform to all regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of quality and production.
•Take on additional duties as required to meet the evolving needs of the business.
Required Competencies:
•Professional Engineering License: Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, as regulated by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
•Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical or metallurgical engineering, from an accredited institution.
•Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience, including project management, maintenance oversight, and research and development activities.
•Knowledge of Standards: Strong understanding of Ontario engineering standards, including adherence to ASTM and CSA guidelines.
•Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD and SolidWorks, along with a solid foundation in mechanical properties (e.g., yield, UTS, elongation, Young’s Modulus) and metallurgical principles.
•Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in supervising engineering teams and maintenance departments, with a focus on collaboration and resource management.
•Compliance and Ethics: Commitment to upholding the Professional Engineers Act and PEO practice guidelines, ensuring ethical and professional conduct in all engineering activities.
