LCRA is in search of a civil engineer who is passionate about utilizing engineering principles to develop substation sites to deliver electricity safely and efficiently across the State of Texas. As a part of the LCRA TSC Structural and Civil Engineering department, you will get an opportunity to work with a community of experts across various of engineering background, all with the singular focus of enhancing the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy, and community service. Your civil design of substation sites with resilient flood mitigation drainage facilities will ensure Texas residents with reliable energy utility infrastructures for years to come.
You Will Be Trusted To
Under limited supervision of a licensed professional engineer, the employee will perform the following functions:
•Perform project scoping engineering analysis and coordinate with stakeholders to develop scope with estimates to be presented to senior management.
•Perform hydrological and hydraulic analysis for 138kV and 345kV substations civil designs. Determine drainage facilities to convey or detain onsite runoffs under design storm events.
•Support site development permitting process with local jurisdiction.
•Perform grading design using Civil 3D
•Plans and conducts engineering projects involving independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
•Schedules, and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
•Conducts and takes full responsibility for moderately complex engineering studies. Performs field analysis, performance tests, designs, cost estimates, lays out drafting work, and the correlation and compilation of data. Coordinate the work with engineers, technicians, craft workers or others.
•Prepares and revises operating procedures and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Follows appropriate business procedures. Applies project management techniques.
•Prepares technical specifications for project services, equipment, and materials for which there are few precedents. Completes related computations and drafts schematics and diagrams.
•Coordinates project reviews and practice timely communication to ensure timely deliverables.
•Maintains knowledge of engineering principles. Keeps informed of technical developments, industry codes, and safety and/or regulatory requirements which have impact upon the respective engineering discipline. Fully develops knowledge of LCRA procedures, equipment, and systems.
•Performs economic evaluations of programs and projects and renders judgement on the costs and benefits of the work from a company-wide perspective.
•Reviews and evaluates bids and provides recommendations.
•Gathers engineering information by traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as necessary.
•In accordance with approved Supply Management processes and procedures, serves as owner’s representative for outside engineering contracts.
You Qualify With
•Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus one or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job.
