As an Engineering Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting engineers in performing engineering functions.
- Plan and write test procedures, coordinate testing with lab personnel, witness and assist with testing, and make verbal and written reports with appropriate recommendations to product engineers (pertains to in‑house and "outside" testing.)
- Have a working knowledge of PLP products and assist in the development of prototype products, tooling and manufacturing processes. Make prototype products using wood, metal, or plastic in combination with simple model shop equipment.
- Prepare preliminary product drawings, charts, graphs, and other layouts used in product development, technical presentations, and reports.
- Assist Quality Assurance in setting up inspection procedures on new products and on existing products when changes are made. Check samples from vendors produced from preliminary and final tooling. Help in on‑site inspections and modifications necessitated by shipment of out‑of‑specification products.
- Coordinate photography work necessitated by product development, product modification, and failure analysis.
- Prepare product test samples.
- Assist in visitations and participate in product demonstrations and product applications.
- Maintain catalogs, specifications books, and engineering standards. Understands the lab and product engineering filing systems to effectively retrieve technical data. Read reports, periodicals, and textbooks as required to stay current with work responsibilities.
- Minor machine capabilities.
- Other items incidental to the function of PLP.
- Minimum high school diploma with some additional technical course work or working knowledge in a technical capacity.
- Minimum one year experience in a technical environment.
- Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to operate various instrumentations and take accurate measurements.
- Ability to set up and conduct testing as well as develop test procedures.
- Ability to write test reports.
- Ability to work well with others.
