This position falls within the requirement for Personnel Risk Assessment to meet compliance requirements of NERC-CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection). A Criminal Record Check must be valid and/or completed prior to being appointed to this position and then on a recurring basis every seven (7) years.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineer, Transmission Engineering Protection & Control is accountable to research, develop, design and execute or support execution of protection and control, automation applications including AC/DC systems that will monitor, control and protect the SaskPower electric system. This position will engineer and design every aspect of the application of Intelligent Electronic Devices (relays, controllers, RTUs). Will design their wiring, will design and develop their programming. This position will act as owner engineer to coordinate consultant work, will provide support during construction and coordinate with other teams within SaskPower. This position will stamp drawings, lead projects and issue resolution - ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices

Provide assistance and prepare project plans and monitor project costs and schedules
Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning, and operations
Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules, and initiate corrective action as appropriate
Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives
Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologies
Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff
Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Systems Engineering

Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng. and relevant experience in a combination of the following engineering tasks: planning facilities, providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management and coordination of projects
Demonstrated competency in engineering/industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures
Excellent research capabilities
Ability to mentor, coach, and support Engineers-In-Training and Technologists
Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
Demonstrate an innovative mindset and technical reasoning
Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
Must have a continuing record of professional development



NOTES

Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training. The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at that level until such a time that they are eligible for a Professional Engineer position either through bidding or P. Eng designation process.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
