Engineer, Process/Technology Improvement (Non-Union)

As an Engineer, Process/Technology Improvement, reporting to the Manager, Process/Technology Improvement, you will be instrumental in transforming the Distribution Design business unit and its interactions with other Alectra Business Units. This position involves leading and supporting strategic projects to enhance data accuracy, streamline processes, and support grid modernization. Your technical and engineering expertise will help identify operational bottlenecks, propose solutions, and document efficiencies. This role is crucial in aligning process improvement initiatives with Alectra's long-term goals to meet evolving industry demands, deliver superior customer service, and drive sustainable growth. You'll analyze current processes to identify opportunities for modernization and increased efficiency.
What you’ll do
Process Documentation and Compliance
- Document the Distribution Design process within the Distribution Design Manual, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, standards, and quality requirements.
- Review and verify configurations and outputs from engineering software tools like SPIDACalc, AutoCAD, Pull Planner, and the Alectra Voltage Drop Calculator.
- Administer and optimize engineering software tools while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
- Develop business cases to support the 10-year plan, quantifying benefits such as cost savings, ROI, and efficiency gains for future capital projects.
- Evaluate existing processes to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and increase overall efficiency.
- Collect, interpret, and analyze process data to make informed decisions and recommendations. Prepare reports and present findings to leadership.
- Lead and support strategic capital projects like process harmonizations and systems integrations, ensuring quality and timely completion within budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to redesign processes, incorporate best practices, and introduce lean methodologies.
- Work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to develop and implement effective distribution design strategies.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes and integrate technology solutions to improve design efficiency and accuracy.
- Develop and implement change management plans to support process improvements and ensure smooth transitions with minimal disruption.
- Design and develop comprehensive technical training programs. Facilitate sessions and workshops to ensure team proficiency in new processes and technologies.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.

Who you are
Education & Technical Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in good standing.
- Valid class “G” driver’s license.
- Experience in distribution design, process engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Lean principles and Six Sigma tools, such as DMAIC, value stream mapping, and statistical process control.
- Experience with cross-functional projects involving stakeholders from various business units.
- Familiarity with CSA 22.3 Overhead and Underground Standards, DSC, and ESA Regulation 22/04.
- Experience in a unionized utility environment is an asset.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proactive and innovative approach to driving continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English for preparing and presenting reports and training materials.
- Ability to manage multiple projects within established timelines.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
