Minnesota Power is looking for a talented Electrical Engineer III to join its Distribution System team to play a crucial role in designing, optimizing, and maintaining our electrical distribution networks. This role will tackle everything from overhead and underground system designs to troubleshooting power quality issues and implementing cutting-edge grid modernization projects. The individual that joins this team will aid in securing the reliability and efficiency of our energy delivery, helping us meet our commitment to a sustainable and modern energy future.
Responsibilities
•Design and oversee overhead distribution systems ensuring they meet industry standards and company requirements.
•Develop and coordinate underground distribution networks to create efficient and reliable systems.
•Coordinate and manage budgeting processes for distribution projects, ensuring alignment with long-term area planning and company financial goals.
•Lead project coordination efforts for the development and implementation of distribution systems, including overhead and underground networks, to ensure efficient and reliable operations.
•Lead the design of distribution substations, integrating cutting-edge technologies and practices.
•Independently troubleshoot power quality issues and provide innovative solutions to enhance system performance.
•Review and coordinate the design of solar interconnects, enabling seamless integration of solar projects into the grid.
•Identify and manage age and asset renewal projects, ensuring the continued reliability and efficiency of the distribution network.
Required Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent.
Required Experience
•Four years or more of related engineering experience PLUS a Professional Engineer license
OR
Fifteen years or more of related engineering experience
•A master’s degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.
•Professional Engineer license is preferred.
Special Requirements
•This position will report regularly in person to Cloquet, MN.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
•This position requires travel to different Minnesota Power/ALLETE facilities and project sites.
•After hours and out of town travel is occasionally required.
•Requires high level of interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
•This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
Benefits
•The expected annual compensation range for this position is $91,000 – $114,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
