The Engineer III – Controls Engineer is responsible for designing and developing controls schemes, hardware, software and PLC deliverables to support NPI product launches. This role functions within product development projects by interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of engineering, labs operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service, and marketing.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical engineer or related discipline; - 5+ years of relevant work experience;
- Background with power generation or industrial process controls
- Experience with PLC/controller programming
- Experience in one or more of the following: generators for standby, parallel, or grid tie applications
- Ability to integrate system controls using Modbus, CAN bus, RS485, Ethernet, telemetric or varied PLC platforms
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance such as: UL, NFPA, CSA, CE, FCC, and IEC standards
- Advanced ability to perform controller troubleshooting and testing activities
- Ability to translate functional requirements into test cases and procedures
- Ability to execute controls test plans, producing pertinent data and reports to demonstrate compliance
- Design, validate and contribute to generator set product design and development through component integration and system operation
- Interpret customer requirements and deliver controls strategy to support business needs
- Continuously improve processes, component selection, controls architecture, and simulation environments to accelerate development of complex, high quality systems
- Apply power and control integration knowledge to create design documentation; participate in design reviews
- Contribute to test plans and reliability requirements for components and systems
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on concurrent projects, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes
- Evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
- Supports product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)
- Translates technical information to all audiences through written communication and presentation skills
- Acts as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers
- Travels to other Generac facilities and customer sites as necessary
- Works independently with strong decision-making skills
