Associate Engineer: $73.584-$89.442 hourly
- This position will be filled at one level, not both* The Alameda County Water District, in Fremont, California, is seeking a motivated engineer to apply their technical design knowledge, project management and leadership skills through the execution of capital projects. As an Electrical Engineer in the Project Engineering Division, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of engineering assignments related to a wide range of water utility infrastructure such as pumping stations, water treatment plants, tanks and reservoirs, electrical utility systems, and process control systems.
An Engineer II or Associate may be assigned to plan, evaluate, direct, schedule, or manage the design and construction of complex capital improvement projects, and/or guide consultants in doing the same.
Work duties are typically broad in scope, and may include: project management for all phases of capital projects at water production, treatment and distribution system facilities including planning, feasibility evaluation, alternatives analyses, economic lifecycle cost analysis, designing, modeling, preparing construction drawings, preparing technical specifications, cost estimating, budgeting, and scheduling; administering and managing various contractor and consultant contracts; coordinating engineering and construction activities with various District departments; and performing other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is licensed in the State of California as a professional Electrical Engineer.
Preferred expertise includes an understanding of design and construction of industrial medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems, Programmable Logic Control (PLC) control systems, and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, preferably with a focus on potable water distribution and treatment facilities and processes; public contracting, and experience working with regulatory agencies and the public.
Engineer II
is the experienced, intermediate-level class in the professional engineering series. Under direction, within a framework of established policies and procedures, incumbents perform a wide range of the more complex engineering assignments. In most cases, incumbents are responsible to manage multiple projects and/or administrative assignments concurrently. Assignments are given in general terms and are subject to periodic review while in progress and upon completion. Incumbents are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey or Associate level. There is considerable latitude for independent judgment and action in well-defined areas of work.
Associate Engineer
is the licensed, experienced, journey-level class in the professional engineering series and performs the highest difficulty and complexity engineering work. Under direction, within a framework of established policies and procedures, incumbents perform the full range of engineering and administrative tasks. Assignments are given in general to conceptual terms and are subject to periodic to infrequent review while in progress and upon completion. Incumbents are responsible to successfully manage multiple complex projects and/or administrative assignments concurrently and may also be assigned program lead responsibilities. There is considerable latitude for independent judgment and action in well-defined areas of work.

Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology
Engineer II:
Two (2) years of full-time practical engineering experience equivalent to that of an Engineer I within the District. An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Associate Engineer:
Two (2) years of full-time practical engineering experience equivalent to that of an Engineer I within the District. An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Additional Requirements Both positions:
Must possess a valid California Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Engineer II:
Must possess a California Engineer-In-Training Certificate.
Associate Engineer
: Must possess California State Registration as a Professional Engineer.
