In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Fuel Handling Engineering section with Equipment Performance is currently hiring for an Engineer/Engineering Trainee.

This is a term position which may be for a period of up to 24 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Fuel Handling Equipment Performance engineering team, you will be part of a team responsible for the strategic and long-term equipment reliability strategies for both the Bruce A and B stations.

The Engineer/Engineer Trainee will be responsible for owning equipment reliability strategy (short and long term) for their respective system(s) and provide engineering support to fuel handling cross functional teams. In addition, the individual will be responsible for supporting Fuel Handling Long Term Strategic Program and work with the new cross functional strategic team on upcoming planning/readiness/execution of reliability improvements for fuel handling during MCR overlaps. The individual and team is accountable for the engineering functions that enable sustained improvements in Bruce Power’s overall equipment performance. A key attribute is application of innovative processes and practices that support the same outcome with less resources being expended.

The Engineer/Engineer Trainee is responsible for planning, evaluating, advising, or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in the Bruce Power facilities.

The Engineer/Engineering Trainee:* Is responsible for the planning, designing, composing, evaluating, advising or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in a Bruce Power facility.
Maintains instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations.
Provides technical evaluations, advice and solves problems in a number of major work areas, in support of commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
Receives assignments from Supervisor as well as identifies potential problems and opportunities in assigned areas and/or systems in the facility.
Assesses and evaluates initial disposition of the problems as requiring (1) further review and investigation, (2) abandonment of the problem as being the best alternative.
Prepares submissions including cost justification or financial evaluation as appropriate; recommends adoption of the proposal and steps required to incorporate it; submits for review and approval.
Discusses installation or implementation with persons concerned, and ensures, where possible, that the installation is as intended.
Keeps abreast of maintenance and operating problems and takes action to implement change as appropriate.
Cooperates with other departments and organizations in arranging tests and providing appropriate documentation as required.
Prepares reports to provide information and data in answer to requests or for historical purposes.
Collects, or arranges for collection, and analyzes data from past events or operations. Prepares reports for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details of procedures, processes, results or conclusions and the roles played by various groups or external organizations. The foregoing may include delivery of presentations. Provides explanations and answers to questions received from recipients of reports.
Reviews proposals received from other sources. Discusses proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommends disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding for approval authority.
Participates in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others. Attends lectures, do assignments and write examinations. Develops training material and give lectures, sets and marks examinations and otherwise assist in training programs.
May be required to gather and collate data for use in department/section budget or business planning preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget and submits to Supervisor for reporting purposes.
Establish, maintain and improve a comprehensive system performance monitoring/trending/analyzing and reporting plan.
Serve as leader for assigned systems and their respective cross functional health teams to improve equipment reliability.
Develop and maintain both a short-term and long-term system plan inclusive of aging/obsolescence, materials degradation, Life Cycle Management, critical spare parts, and life extension issues.
Identify and quantify risks along with mitigating actions associated with the system.
Perform other long-term initiatives and planning duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills:* Requires knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, metallurgy, engineering, I&C, mechanical and process systems to technically understand the operation of the facility.

Requires advanced knowledge of one or more of these subjects to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment, and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance.
Requires excellent communication skills to prepare clear and concise reports both verbally and in writing. Ability to interface effectively with operations, maintenance, other technical staff, regulators and other stakeholders.
Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.
Ability to work in a high pressure, time limited environment.

Education and Experience: Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)* Completion of a 4-year University degree in Engineering.

An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng).
A period of over 6 years, up to and including 8 years’ experience is considered necessary to gain this experience.

Engineering Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)* Completion of a 4-year University degree in Engineering

Required to obtain a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.
A period over 2 years, up to and including 4 years of experience is considered necessary.
