Under broad guidance, the Digital Water Engineer serves as a technical expert on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Twins. The role supports the optimization of HRSD’s wastewater treatment and interceptor systems through engineering analysis, data-driven insights, and innovative program implementation. A key responsibility is leading and managing Digital Water projects, including the integration of advanced tools, development of data pipelines, and deployment of digital solutions to enhance system performance. Additionally, the position collaborates across departments, supports student interns, coordinates with IT on cybersecurity and software initiatives, and contributes to budget planning and preparation.
- B.S. Degree in one of the following disciplines: civil/environmental engineering, computer science with major coursework in data science, modeling and data science, or a closely related field
- M.S. degree in the above fields of study or closely related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, regulatory compliance, plant operations, hydraulic modeling, biological process modelling, and/or resource optimization.
- Minimum five years of experience training, validating, and testing ML models. This experience should include applying ML models to real-world optimization problems.
- Minimum three years of experience building and applying data pipelines, managing databases, bridging data silos, and/or accessing data via APIs.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residence
- Professional Engineer’s license and/or Machine Learning certification(s)
