JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Manager – Distribution System, is responsible for performing various engineering analysis and economic evaluations of alternatives and assisting with the collection and assessment of outage and service interruption reports to assure optimum operation and provide recommendations on improvements to the distribution and transmission system.
EDUCATION:
•Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
•0-3 years or more experience required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•Knowledge of power engineering, distribution system design and construction, engineering economics and statistics, feasibility and power factor studies, system reliability analysis, symmetrical components voltage regulation, and over-current coordination principals and sectionalization devices to include relays, sectionalizers, reclosers, and fuses.
•Ability to operate personal computers and various software applications to include MS Windows, Excel, Word, Project, AutoCad, GIS, ETAP, Milsoft.
•Ability to analyze data, perform complex engineering analysis, meet deadlines, and prepare comprehensive reports.
•Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.
•Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Oversees and monitors transformer load management, distribution loss study, power factor correction, and other on-going system projects.
•Develops short and long range system upgrade plans for incorporation into financial planning forecasts.
•Performs coordination studies, voltage correction studies, load balancing, and power factor correction to optimize the distribution feeders.
•Prepares recommendations for short and long range system planning.
•Performs studies involving the application of symmetrical components to the analysis of fault current.
•Develops over-current coordination and over-voltage protection philosophies relating to the Company’s distribution system.
•Assures compliance with voltage regulation of the Company’s distribution system.
•Coordinates the collecting, investigating, validating and processing of data on customer service interruptions and system outages.
•Responsible for power factor and proper voltage on assigned feeders.
•Responsible for coordinating the installation of Distributed Generation on the distribution system.
•Determines the source of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and works with crews to eliminate the source of the problem in the field.
•Expected to respond to distribution emergencies, as needed.
•Member of the duty roster, participating in the duty rotation.
•Responsible for the overall function of the Distribution - Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (D-SCADA) equipment.
•Responsible for assigned area of town, ensuring that Service Betterment Capital Projects are specified, budgeted, designed and constructed on time on a yearly basis.
•Responds to customer complaints and determines areas where system improvements are necessary.
•Performs cost and benefit analysis on proposed system improvements.
•Serves as resource for other sections in quantifying and documenting the level of reliability at alternate proposed locations for new businesses.
•Provides support to the distribution dispatch section for restoration of power during outages and collects and analyzes data.
•Works with various sections and assists in the assessment of reliability and consequences of planned system growth and system configuration.
•Develops recommendations for the distribution system short and long term plan.
•Contributes to the Distribution 10 Year Plan
•Trains less senior staff.
•Valid driver’s license and be in compliance with the Company’s Driving Program policy.
•Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
•Perform other related tasks that are not included, but are within the context of the duties defined.
