The Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the design, validation and problem solving for all electrical and electronics related to in-service products and operations requiring engineering. The scope of the role ranges from legacy products (thermoelectric generators) as well as new cleantech products (combined heat and power generators, hybrid solar systems and methane emissions reduction solutions).
• Prepare product designs for production. Design, validate and problem solve for a variety of electrical and primarily electronics related engineering challenges.
• Approve and/or source alternate components or technologies, or design components, Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA) and test fixtures.
• Design testing requirements for new designs, establish acceptance criteria, and validate results; for both hardware components and associated software.
• Assess and document Design for Manufacturability, Assembly and Test (DFM/DFA/DFT).
• Engage and support LEAN and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities to further reduce manufacturing risk and product reliability.
• Contract manufacturing support for troubleshooting functional test fixtures.
• Perform microcontroller firmware troubleshooting and design changes.
• Work with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) such as Intertek and CSA for certification of new products and file updates of existing products.
• Act as a technical resource to other departments such as NPD, Sales, or Customer Service.
• Evaluate and troubleshoot returned field equipment and perform root cause analysis.
• Approve and or source components or technologies, PCB assemblies, and test fixtures.
• Post-secondary degree in a technical field, preferably Electronics Engineering
• Aptitude in troubleshooting, testing, and qualifying electro-mechanical parts in a manufacturing environment.
• Utilize Printed Circuit Board design software packages (Altium).
• 0-5 years of experience with electrical and electronics design and validation
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Excellent analytic, strategic, and creative problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and an inquiring mind, ultimately leading to problem prevention and solutions that meet business needs.
• Accountable for decision making and planning for independent projects, including budget, schedule, and cost targets.
• Experience with CAD programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is an asset.
• Desire to learn, adapt and accept new challenges in a product development and manufacturing environment with an outlook that issues are challenges that present opportunities.
