Electronic Repair & Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

The Electronic R&M Technician plays a critical role in the electromechanical inspection, repair, and maintenance of Weatherford's downhole tools and equipment. Utilizing the company's facilities, machinery, and systems, the technician applies intermediate-level techniques and practices to carry out tasks related to the full scope of equipment maintenance. This includes receiving, dismantling, repairing, refurbishing, and preparing tools for their next assignment, in accordance with technical manuals, work instructions, and procedures. As an intermediate-level role, the R&M Technician operates with greater independence than entry-level technicians, handling more complex repairs and tasks with minimal supervision. In addition to performing routine and preventive maintenance, the technician contributes to process improvements and ensures adherence to safety and quality standards. While not in a supervisory role, the R&M Technician may provide informal guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, helping them develop their skills

OPERATIONS -

Daily Operations and Safety Participation

Actively participate in all daily operations and safety meetings, including toolbox talks and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), providing insights and contributing to safety discussions.

Proactively identify and report safety or operational issues using appropriate tools and take initial corrective actions with minimal supervision.

Maintaining Work Areas

Independently maintain equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Help oversee work area organization and mentor less experienced technicians on best practices for maintaining safe and efficient workspaces.

Electromechanical Repairs

Perform repairs on electronic equipment for downhole tools using hand tools and power tools with minimal supervision.

Confidently use precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices to troubleshoot and resolve issues, independently diagnosing root causes.

Perform soldering as per Technical Work Instructions.

Independently inspect used parts to identify wear or damage, using advanced measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

Provide recommendations for part replacements or repairs based on inspection findings, and guide less experienced technicians in basic inspection procedures.

Perform and lead maintenance procedures, including unloading, cleaning, and visual inspection of tools and equipment, ensuring all tasks follow established procedures.

Documentation and Reporting

Independently initiate and update forms, checklists, and work orders during maintenance tasks, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Ensure compliance with time tracking using the WO (Work Order) Time tracking system.

Handling and Moving Equipment

Safely operate tools and advanced lifting equipment to move machinery and equipment to and from storage areas or vehicles, ensuring proper handling and compliance with safety guidelines.

Other Duties

Perform additional tasks assigned by supervisors, demonstrating initiative in managing more complex assignments and ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard.

Mentor and guide less experienced technicians, providing on-the-job training and feedback to support their development and enhance team performance.

COMMUNICATION -

Where required, will report all equipment failures and troubleshooting requirements to the R&M Management

Maintains effective communications with all key stakeholders both internal and where appropriate external

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

2-4+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry as an electronic/electromechanical technician, with demonstrated competence in routine repair and maintenance tasks.

Preferred: Manufacturing / Repair and Maintenance experience with directional downhole tools such as Measurement While Drilling, Logging While Drilling, or Wireline.

Electronic & Mechanical Assembly Skills & Experience :

Disassembling, Diagnosing, Testing, and Repairing downhole electronics.

Knowledge of electrical/electronic concepts such as amperage, voltage, AC/DC circuits, etc.

Experience with electronics troubleshooting, board level electronics repair, soldering, electronic equipment, and HMI computer systems.

Proficient with mechanical assembly & disassembly, overhead crane, torque machines, wrenches, measuring instruments/devices and hand and power tools (e.g. tapes, gauges, micrometer, callipers, etc.)

Proficient at reading and interpreting electronic and mechanical drawings, schematics, blueprints and assembly instructions

Physical Capability : Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including:

Lifting and moving equipment,

Standing and walking for extended periods,

Performing tasks that require manual dexterity and mobility throughout the workday, and

Working in a non-climate-controlled workshop environment (70%) as well as an electronics lab (30%).

Problem Recognition : Skills in identifying potential problems during tasks and escalating them to supervisors for resolution.

Teamwork and Communication: Good communication skills to interact effectively with team members and supervisors.

Basic Mathematics : Understanding mathematical concepts for measurements and equipment maintenance.

Time Management : Demonstrates punctuality and ability to manage tasks within assigned timelines.
