Over the past 60 years, Alpha Southwest has become the largest deep-set turbine and water well contractor in New Mexico and far West Texas. Headquartered in Albuquerque, we offer supply and service capabilities for booster pumps, wells, electrical switchgear and controls, and electric motors. Alpha Southwest also operates a facility in El Paso, TX.
We serve the municipal, industrial, and commercial markets, focusing on major maintenance contracts that cover deep-set turbine pumps, fluid transferring booster pumps, wastewater submersible sewage pumps, and chemical dosing pumps. Our scope also includes electrical services (control voltage up to 4160V), VFDs, PLCs, instrumentation/controls, SCADA systems, flow measurement, valves, well rehabilitation and repair, as well as vertical turbine pump rehab and repair or replacement. Additionally, ASW operates fabrication and machining facilities at both shops to support all these activities.
We are looking for a dynamic, results-driven, customer service-oriented Electrical Group Manager with experience in electrical components within the groundwater pump and service industry. Based in Albuquerque, this position will lead and manage our electrical team and oversee electrical work.
- Supervise and manage electrical installations, maintaining high standards of safety and quality
- Conduct thorough inspections of electrical systems and troubleshoot any issues to ensure optimal functionality
- Lead and mentor a team of electricians, providing guidance and training on best practices and safety protocols
- Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure the timely completion of electrical work
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine project specifications and requirements
- Stay updated with the latest electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for electrical systems to prevent downtime
- Installs and monitors performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.
- Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
- Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.
- Repairs and maintains motor control centers and programmable logic controls (1000 volt and below).
- Plans electrical secondary system additions or modifications.
- May perform work of lower-level electricians.
- Ensures proper care in using and maintaining equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Reads, employs, and updates electrical panel schedules.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Installing, repairing, and servicing electrical systems.
- Sourcing or fabricating replacement electrical components.
- Interpret blueprints and draw rough sketches when required.
- Guiding and overseeing other apprentices or journeyman electricians.
- Drawing up preventative maintenance measures and explaining these to clients and other electricians.
- Obtaining required permits, equipment, tools, and materials for projects.
- Testing and troubleshooting systems.
- Providing assistance during emergencies.
- Updating project records and preparing relevant documents and reports for clients.
- Liaising with clients, vendors, and other electricians.
- High school diploma or GED; at least 15 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Possess a current New Mexico Electrical Journeyman License (EE98J).
- Possess a current New Mexico Electrical distribution and transmission systems operating above 5,000 volts (EL01) for New Mexico
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Preferred – Master Electrician’s Licenses for New Mexico
- Knowledge of secondary electrical systems, including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.
- Understanding of and ability to program and repair VFDs, SCADA systems, PCLs
- Ability to work with low and medium-voltage systems
- Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test 1000-volt and below electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for secondary systems 1000 volts and below.
- Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
- Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers as appropriate to the position.
- Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges

- Commitment to promoting a culture of safety and compliance- 10 + years of Electrical Systems for Industrial Pump Systems & Service Industry experience, including knowledge of all electrical components (VFDs, SCADA system, etc.) for vertical turbine/deep-set pumps, key trends, competitors, and customer needs
- Familiarity with pump systems, water wells, and related technologies, which are essential for effective communication with clients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrating a mindset of continuous improvement, keeping up with industry developments, attending training sessions, and seeking feedback
- Ability to travel 40-60%; some overnight travel required; company vehicle provided
- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR (Motor Vehicles Report) check for this job.
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
- Work involves constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
