We are seeking a motivated electrical engineering student to join our Bitumen Production team. This hands-on role offers valuable experience supporting the operation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems used in heavy oil extraction and bitumen production processes. You will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians in a dynamic, industrial setting.

- Job location: Fort McMurray, AB – Horizon
- Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, working 10 hours per shift
- Term lengths: 8 or 12 months
- Term starts: January or May 2026
- Safety sensitive position: Yes
- Provide day to day support to the E&I Reliability and maintenance electricians teams for ensuring maximum reliability and uptime of BP equipment including motors, transformers, switchgear, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Work towards achieving reliability goals and measure effectiveness of reliability programs
- Assist with troubleshoot and investigate complex electrical equipment failure to reduce unplanned downtime; liaise with vendor for support
- Comply with all Health and Safety Requirements established by Canadian Natural with a constant focus on safety, cost reduction and reliability
- Review and audit predictive and preventative maintenance programs and make recommendation for improvement
- Ensure the industry's best practices for maintaining electrical assets are implemented, cost effective and are part of the overall operations and maintenance activities
- Make recommendation on spare parts optimization and interface with all departments to support BP maintenance functions and activities, including maintenance planners and maintenance coordinators
- Develop, update and review maintenance procedures, equipment files, drawings and documentation
- Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or related fields
- Strong academic foundation in electrical systems, controls, or power systems
- Good work ethic and positive attitude
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical components, safety procedures, single line diagrams and control schematic drawings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, documenting findings and tracking and reporting on progress.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Maximo or similar software is an asset.
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including field work in remote or outdoor locations.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
- A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
