The Position
The Smart Wires Electrical Engineering group is looking for an intern to help drive forward the quality and reliability of our electronics designs. This role is an intersection of design work, testing, and automation. This role involves working closely with Electrical and Test engineers and will be a combination of lab and computer-based work. Qualified candidates are critical thinkers, optimistic, excellent communicators, and thrive when working as part of a fast paced, multi-disciplinary team.
Primary Responsibilities
•Perform testing on a variety of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and electrical components. This will involve working with a wide range of voltages and currents, as well as manipulating a variety of operating conditions including temperature, humidity, etc
•Participate in research and development of new technologies to implement into our products
•Research industry standards related to electronics quality and reliability and recommend new tests to implement according to these standards
•Implement automation techniques to streamline test procedure execution and tracking of test records
•Record test data, compile it into test documentation, and communicate to a cross-functional team of stakeholders
Requirements
Required Skills and Experience
•Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
•Working understanding of electrical properties: AC vs DC, frequency, voltage, current, power, resistance, capacitance, inductance, etc
•Familiarity with analog and digital circuitry and components
•Familiarity with a lab environment and basic test and measurement equipment
•Strong skills in written and verbal communication of technical information
•Eager to learn and solve complex problems
•Self-motivated with the ability to ask questions when needed
•Ability to work in a diverse, global team environment
•Attention to detail and good organizational skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
•Demonstrated experience with test equipment such as function generators, oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, and DC power supplies
•Understanding of electrical component functionality: MOSFETs, diodes, transformers, inductors, capacitors, etc.
•Understanding of various circuit topologies: DC/DC conversion, AC/DC conversion, op-amp circuitry
•Experience with modeling circuitry in LTspice
•Familiarity with industry standards: IEEE, IPC, JESD
