Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Orlando, FL is seeking an Electrical Technical Support Engineer – Summer Intern.
SUMMARY
The Electrical Technical Support Engineer Summer Internship is expected to support Construction and Commissioning activities of Power Generation Simple Cycle (SC), Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT), and Combined Heat and Power Projects (CCHP), in Multi Shaft and Single Shaft configurations. The position will report to the Senior Technical Support Engineer of the Project Support Management Group and shall coordinate activities with Engineering, Technical Field Advisors in the field, Vendors, External/Internal Suppliers, and Contractors at site. This position requires general knowledge of Construction, Commission, and Start-up processes along with a specific certified field engineering discipline.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Evaluate and apply methods and techniques to develop electrical installation and commissioning procedures implementing standard engineering criteria, using independent judgment with moderated supervision.
•Review electrical engineering designs, including single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, connection diagrams, protection schemes, equipment tree line diagrams, load lists, etc.
•Evaluate alternate and direct current designs capable of developing power plant standard equipment installation and commissioning procedures.
•Basic knowledge of main power plant electrical components such as power and distribution transformers, control transformers, current transformers, generators, Automatic Voltage Regulators, static frequency converters, generator protection panels, and other auxiliary equipment.
•Basic knowledge of gas turbine control, governor for speed control, main instruments and control loops, and auxiliary gas turbine equipment.
•Ensure electrical system designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
•Effectively coordinate support to field engineers, including requests for materials specifications for equipment supplied by Mitsubishi. Review requests for information (RFIs).
•Correctly interpret and apply codes, standards, and customer design requirements to prepare electrical erection and commissioning procedures, specifications, material requests, and system descriptions.
•Conduct extensive document and design verification to deliver a complete set of electrical procedures. Manage time efficiently to meet submission dates.

•Coordinate with Mitsubishi site teams, suppliers, quality teams, and contractors to ensure proper installation and commissioning of power plant electrical systems.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Support site teams by providing technical electrical engineering recommendations to solve site issues. Create technical reports, presentations, and detailed research documentation.
•Perform evaluations on short circuits and coordination of protection studies.
•Provide direction on construction sites to ensure projects are built according to specific designs and local standards.
•Ensure projects conform with federal, state, local, and company engineering standards and specifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
Education and/or Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering and currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program.
•Experience with simulations using EMTP, MATLAB, or similar software preferred.
•Familiarity with ISO procedures and OSHA safety requirements is an asset.
Language Skills:
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
•Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning Ability:
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
•Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and electronic mail systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
•Regularly required to stand and walk.
•Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
•The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection may be recommended and/or required in some areas.
