Overview
As an Electrical Engineer in the Project Engineering department, you will be a front-facing field engineer and report directly to the project manager of heavy industrial, major capital construction projects. You will be a job-site leader in safety, quality, and scope execution, ensuring all work is completed in a professional and ethical manner, within a team environment. Your primary responsibilities include project document review & reporting, contract management & execution, and act in an advisory position to management.
Project Engineering Department Overview – Project Engineering projects include new generation (such as natural gas combined cycle plants and solar facilities), large-scale battery storage, and other environmental compliance (selective catalytic reduction technology, effluent guidelines water treatment, etc.) projects. Project Engineering works interdepartmentally within LG&E-KU, as well as with outside consultants in planning, permitting, and execution of major capital projects.
Responsibilities
- Passion for safety; Ensure all electrical systems adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Spearhead the design and development of electrical systems (such as power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation).
- Collaborate and advise the project manager on scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation across multiple, complex projects.
- Maintain adherence to project design, quality standards, budget, and schedule throughout execution.
- Work closely with engineers, construction managers, procurement specialists, and other key stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Manage the activities of contractors and suppliers related to electrical equipment and services to meet project specifications.
- Directs the activities of engineers, technicians, supervisors and/or others assigned to specific projects or work groups as necessary
- Assignments are broad in nature and of critical importance to the company and/or its customers; individual will have the latitude of responsibility for un-reviewed actions or decisions
- Consults with management in the development of departmental goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures
- Directs and/or reviews the development of management analyses and business impact studies associated with departmental business and technical initiatives; Advises departmental management on highly specialized subjects
- Provides technical leadership for large project development and implementation; Works closely with less skilled individuals to promote/exchange knowledge
- Presents to management in a professional manner, ideas, technologies, and business case analysis necessary when making financial/business decisions
- Participates in professional, industry, and/or civic organizations to maintain and enhance expertise actively seeking, researching, and recommending new and innovative applications of technology
- Develops and leads continuous improvement initiatives within the line of business
- Plans and controls activities so as to provide an accident-free work place
