Scope of Job:

Renewable America is seeking an Electrical Engineer (Licensed Professional Engineer) to support the development, design, and execution of distributed generation solar and energy storage projects. This position requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering, design standards, and power systems, along with demonstrated experience in preparing and reviewing stamped drawings and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and interconnection requirements. The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in project development, interconnection coordination, and engineering design reviews from conceptual layout through construction and commissioning. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

·        Prepare and review electrical designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, conduit and wiring schedules, and grounding plans.

·        Stamp and seal electrical drawings, reports, and technical documents as the responsible Professional Engineer.

·        Support interconnection application efforts under Rule 21, WDAT, and CAISO processes; coordinate with utilities and consultants to resolve technical issues.

·        Conduct or review power system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination analyses.

·        Evaluate and specify major electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and BESS systems.

·        Ensure design compliance with NEC, IEEE, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, CEC Title 24, and utility interconnection standards.

·        Support construction and commissioning by reviewing submittals, RFIs, and field test results.

·        Collaborate with the development, EPC, and operations teams to identify cost-effective and reliable engineering solutions.

·        Prepare technical inputs for RFPs, proposals, and feasibility assessments.

·        Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and designers as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

·        California Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering (required).

·        Minimum 4 years of experience in the design or review of solar PV, BESS, or distributed generation electrical systems.

·        Strong knowledge of medium-voltage (12–35 kV) distribution systems, grounding, and protection schemes.

·        Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, ETAP, and ArcGIS, with the ability to adapt to new tools as needed.

·        Experience with utility interconnection processes, including technical screens and protection requirements.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed engineering documentation.

·        Strong organizational and project management abilities with attention to detail.

·        Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
