The Electrical Engineer III will support projects ranging from commercial buildings to industrial and utility power systems, and from simple power delivery to complex control schemes. The Electrical Engineer III will help with the development of


· Electrical designs, specification, and construction documents;

· Electrical power, control, protection and communication schemes; and


· Electrical evaluations, studies, and reports.

Work you ought to enjoy (Duties):· Leading engineering efforts for commercial, industrial, and utility electric power system projects

Coordinating with clients and stakeholders and consulting relevant codes to identify design requirements.
Developing conceptual designs.
Identifying data required for design, modeling, or study tasks; and coordinating with geotechnical engineers, surveyors, clients, operations personnel, field technicians, or others as required to obtain the required information.
Performing and evaluating system studies to properly design power, protection, control, monitoring, or automation systems.
Developing electrical power and control schematics, and understanding symbols, logic, acronyms and circuit operations commonly represented in electrical power and control schematics.
Performing and understanding calculations to check load flow, voltage drop, CT burden & saturation, illumination levels, short circuit availability, arc-flash energy, grounding potential rise, conduit fill, and insulation coordination.
Preparing technical reports for protection systems, and time current curve (TCC) graphs or other graphs to illustrate protection coordination characteristics.
Researching and understanding the operation of protection and control system components, and creating files to configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or protective relays.
Operating electric power system modeling software to study electrical power systems.
Develop protection relaying testing & commissioning plans to be executed by others. Review and approve testing & commissioning reports done by others.
Understand the proper application of electrical equipment, materials, and components.
Sizing electrical components and cables per operational loading, manufacturer requirements, and code requirements.

· Supporting projects by assisting with big picture project planning, monitoring, and communications

Preparation of project scopes, schedules, and budgets;
Communication and coordination with clients, customers, contractors, sub-consultants, stakeholders, and internal management regarding project statuses, constraints, technical issues, changes, etc;
Updating project plans, documenting project changes, and updating project status/monitoring reports;
Providing support for design, equipment procurement, construction and commissioning of projects;
Preparing scope of work for subconsultants; and
Developing or contractor’s scope of work documents

· Guiding and leading team members, and contributing yourself, to produce clear and accurate technical documents

Determining the physical arrangement of electrical system components for facilities or large electrical systems.
Creating and modifying facility physical layout documents including general arrangement, conduit, grounding, structure, control building, relay panels, lighting, fence, and signage; plans, elevations, sections, and details as required.
Preparing detailed material and equipment lists that coordinate with drawings.
Creating and modifying electrical system documents including one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, connection diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules as required.
Creating and preparing document packages to facilitate client reviews, procurement quotes/guidance, contractor bidding, construction, and as-built records.
Creating, requesting, and/or collecting field mark-ups or as-built conditions and apply to as-built drawings.
Preparing reports to document arc-flash, protection coordination, or other studies
Contributing to standardization of drawings, reports, and deliverable generation processes.

· Researching, learning, and applying technical expertise to get the right results

Creating technical specifications for major equipment.
Reviewing design drawings, manufacturer submittals, and equipment specifications to ensure they meet acceptable standards.
Researching components to ensure proper configuration and application of them.
Attending field trips to obtain equipment data, to support testing & commissioning, or observe construction.
Attending trainings then applying what you’ve learned and/or disseminating to other team members.

· Collaborating with us, collaborating with clients, and collaborating with others to keep projects, people, materials, and equipment moving on the right track

Communicate and coordinate work activities with ARC’s team, clients, and others as needed.
Coordinating with and providing technical assistance to SCADA/communication engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff to develop complete power, protection, control, and monitoring systems.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to in-experienced team members.
Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one's work.

What this position requires (Qualifications):At a minimum

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Professional Engineer License
Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE Guide to Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations (IEEE 1584)
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, electrical power system modeling software, and Autodesk AutoCAD)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.


Preferred additional

Knowledge of the fundamentals of AC power systems, DC power systems, and three phase power system design and construction.
Knowledge of basic protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment.
Knowledge of protection and control systems with the ability to understand one-lines and control schematics.
Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design.
Familiarity with other codes, standards, or guides published by IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI that are related to power system equipment, studies, or design.
Proficient in SKM PowerTools and/or ASPEN DistriView power system modeling software
