Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consulting firm specializing in assisting public and private clients to plan, develop, design, construct, and maintain critical infrastructure projects across the United States. They operate in a wide range of sectors, including transportation, environmental services, water resources, bridge structures, energy, freeways/highways/arterial streets, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), public-private partnerships (P3) & alternative delivery, landscape architecture, federal projects, land & civil/site development, survey & right-of-way, mining, rail/transit, traffic, and wind energy.
They have an opportunity available for a licensed Electrical Engineer to assume the role of Electrical Group Manager in the Arizona office.
We are seeking an experienced electrical engineer with engineering team management experience in renewable energy projects, particularly large-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects. The candidate will perform a variety of assignments requiring the application of electrical engineering and design techniques for large-scale solar PV, wind, and battery energy storage projects, and be familiar with HV engineering. The role will be to provide responsive, diligent, and collaborative support to our clients in the renewable energy industry.
· Lead and review the electrical design of large-scale renewable energy power plants.
· Perform and review load flow studies (voltage drop, losses, reactive power needs)
· Perform and review string length calculations, maximum source current, and energy yield analysis
· Draft and review of cable schedules (DC, AC LV, AC MV)
· Draft and review bill of quantities and materials
· Review construction drawings, calculations, and studies completed by the Electrical Group members under his/her supervision, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, project specifications, and maintaining Company standards and consistency.
· Coordinate with other design disciplines (Civil & Structural Engineering Groups) for effective project design.
· Support construction of the project by responding to contractor and owner requests, including RFIs and submittal reviews
· Managing, mentoring, and performance monitoring of the Electrical Group team members. Planning assigned resources per project schedule and budget in an effective manner. Distributing workload and proposing workflow improvements in the context of the Energy Practice.
· Identify, evaluate, select, and monitor qualified subcontractors
· Manage specific projects and clients in the context of the Energy Practice.
• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of six (6) years of demonstrated electrical design experience, with a minimum of four (4) years managing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NEC 2023, 2020 & 2017
• AC (LV and MV) and DC electrical knowledge required, solar project experience preferred
• HV, substation, and overhead line design experience is a plus
• Strong project management, reporting, and technical skills as well as attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proficient in industry-standard electrical engineering tools (ETAP, XGSLab, DigSilent, AUTOCAD, etc.)
• Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
