The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of utility-scale and commercial storage projects. This role focuses on electrical system design and integration, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project-specific requirements. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and technically proficient in energy storage system architecture, power conversion systems, grid interconnection design, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-disciplinary teams.
· Design and engineer electrical systems for BESS projects, including AC/DC schematics, grounding, protection schemes, and utility interconnection.
· Develop and review single-line diagrams, wiring layouts, and power distribution systems.
· Support the specification and selection of equipment such as PCS, transformers, switchgear, and battery racks.
· Ensure all designs meet applicable standards (NEC, NFPA, UL, IEEE, IEC) and local utility requirements.
· Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and vendors to support permitting, procurement, and construction.
· Analyze system performance, conduct power flow studies, and assist with grid impact assessments.
· Support commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting of installed systems.
· Review vendor submittals and ensure integration compatibility across system components.
· Prepare documentation for interconnection applications, permit packages, and compliance reports.
· Stay current with emerging BESS technologies and trends in grid-scale storage.
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
· 2–5 years of electrical engineering experience with battery storage, renewables, or power systems.
· Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and electrical analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, or similar.
· Strong knowledge of energy storage systems, power conversion, and electrical safety codes.
· Familiarity with UL 9540/9540A, IEEE 1547, NEC Article 706, and energy storage integration practices.
· Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and fast-paced environments.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.
· Experience with SCADA, EMS, or BMS system integration.
· Knowledge of SAP or other enterprise-level project management tools.
· Prior field experience with energy storage commissioning or operations.
