This is a local position where you will be REQUIRED to work daily. You will be able to Work-From-Home (WFH) the majority of the time, but will be required to travel as necessary to Rochester, NY. ChargeSmart EV is a turnkey business solution for commercial customers, electric vehicle (EV) charging needs. We provide our customers the support they need to develop an electric charging program that fits their needs, and their customer’s needs, all while working with a single partner. We provide the service and support to ensure that our customers can build out their charging infrastructure while helping them take advantage of available state and utility incentives in their area.
Job Description:
ChargeSmart EV is looking for a Professional Electrical Engineer with experience in EV charging infrastructure or similar electrical systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing, reviewing, and stamping electrical plans for permit submission across various jurisdictions. This role is critical to ensuring code compliance, electrical safety, and permitting efficiency for all ChargeSmart EV projects.
Responsibilities:
•Design and develop electrical plans for EV charging station installations (Level 2 & DC Fast Charging).
•Stamp and approve drawings in compliance with national, state, and local codes.
•Work closely with project managers, electricians, and civil engineers to ensure plans align with field requirements and installation feasibility.
•Provide technical guidance during site assessments and pre-installation planning.
•Assist with AHJ submittals and respond to plan check comments.
•Review third-party plans and perform QA/QC checks for design consistency and accuracy.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NEC, UL, and other relevant codes and standards. Ensure code compliance (NEC, local amendments, ADA, etc.) and manage redline comments from permitting authorities
•Support cross-functional teams with engineering insights and recommendations.
•Civil Engineering Capabilities are required
•Review civil site plans for coordination with electrical designs, including trenching, conduit routing, and ADA compliance
•Other duties as required
Requirements and Skills:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
•Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (required) – multi-state licensing or ability to obtain additional state certifications is a strong plus.
•3+ years of experience in electrical design, preferably with EV infrastructure or power distribution systems.
•Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or similar design software.
•Familiarity with NEC, utility coordination, permitting processes, and EVSE hardware.
•Excellent communication and documentation skills.
•Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Compensation:
•Salary of $125k-$150k Annually (depending on experience)
•Company 401k Match Program (5%+ Employee Contribution = 4% Employer Match) up to a maximum Employer $ Match of $5,000 per year
•Health Insurance (Employer Covers 80% of Monthly Plan Cost, in a Tiered System)
