The Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) is hiring a skilled and safety-focused Electric Services Horizontal Directional Drill Locator to support underground utility construction and directional drilling operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and accurate location of underground utilities and the successful navigation of drill paths in both standard and high-risk environments.
- Strong understanding of safety rules, OSHA regulations, and high-voltage safety practices.
- Proficiency in operating DCI locating systems and underground utility locating equipment.
- General knowledge of directional boring construction practices and drill fluid additives.
- Familiarity with mechanical and hydraulic equipment, URD construction, and HDD techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, schematics, and take accurate field measurements.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, trenches, manholes, and extreme weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and the public.
- HDD locating equipment, UG utility locators, fluid mixing systems, mini excavators, hydraulic vacs, dump trucks, hand tools, and communication devices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience as a utility locator, preferably in HDD operations.
- Must pass a Functional Employment Test (FET).
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A CDL.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, including working in confined spaces and under varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to energized lines, heights, and extreme temperatures.
- As required by the PWC Safety Manual.
