JOB SUMMARY
Hydro Ottawa provides customer-centric and cost effective DSM advice and programs to help customers reduce energy consumption and manage electricity costs while meeting system needs and government objectives. The DSM Energy Conservation Engineer plays a key role in supporting Hydro Ottawa’s DSM team by applying strategic and technical expertise to engage customers, elevate the customer experience and drive increased value in areas of energy efficiency and electricity DSM. The role focuses on maximizing energy savings for commercial customers by educating and employing strategies to effectively encourage participation in DSM programs and initiatives. The DSM Energy Conservation Engineer assists customers in identifying energy-efficiency equipment, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), load management, and demand response solutions. The DSM Energy Conservation Engineer gathers valuable insights on DER adoption and trends and contributes to the design and delivery of Non-Wires Solutions (NWS). The DSM Energy Conservation Engineer tracks and quantifies savings as a result of these interactions, in support of achieving GWh and GW savings in accordance with team objectives and commitments.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
•Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the team’s annual strategic plan, including sales strategies to achieve goals.
•Leverage internal data and metrics to identify and target potential customers for team engagement.
•Build relationships through workshops, seminars, and personalized consultations with commercial customers to establish Hydro Ottawa as a trusted advisor; by reviewing energy reports, analyzing data and load profiles identifying energy-savings, flexible load and DER opportunities, recommending projects, assisting with incentive applications, supporting implementation, and measuring/tracking activities for program compliance.
•Capture and maintain customer information and opportunities in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, share intelligence with internal stakeholders, including key accounts, to assist with developing strategies and/or programs that strengthen market share or increase customer value.
•Measure and verify achieved savings from customer projects, following International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol, where applicable.
•Work with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, key accounts, asset planning, innovation, marketing and management) to design, develop, and deliver DSM/DER/NWS business cases, pilots, programs, and/or services, as well as contribute to advocacy work and NWS applications where necessary.
•Leverage internal systems, data, and tools including the Benefit-Cost Analysis Framework to analyze the achievable potential and financial viability of customer facing NWS.
•Manage and use productivity tools to support sales efforts and identify efficiencies in program delivery.
•Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders on programs and activities.
•Develop and cultivate industry and trade ally relationships to support team initiatives, through participation in industry associations, events and other appropriate channels.
•Address or direct customer issues to minimize brand risk and increase customer satisfaction while respecting governance and program compliance.
•Ensure program compliance and Hydro Ottawa regulatory and workplace obligations.
•Participate in applicable working groups and committees (IESO, NRCan, OEB), and collaborate with other LDCs on relevant projects, as required.
•Contribute to team reporting activities and assist with preparing responses to internal and external audits, where applicable and appropriate.
•Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering
•Professional Engineer licensed or be able to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
•Demonstrated knowledge of energy efficient technologies
•Minimum 5 years’ experience in electricity utilization, energy management and building systems (i.e.: lighting, motors, building controls and HVAC systems)
•Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or be able to obtain certification within 1 year of employment; other professional certifications in energy efficiency, energy management, and sustainability (Certified Measurement & Verification Professional or similar) considered an asset
•Knowledge of electrical metering, load profiling and analyzing electricity rate impacts
•Experience in site investigations, report writing, construction review, specification writing, and commissioning of building systems
•Good understanding of the electric utility business
•Experience in business development or account management, proposal and report writing, and making presentations
•Project Management experience with an emphasis on managing multiple projects
•Experience with RETScreen or equivalent energy modeling software considered an asset
•Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
•English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
•Valid Driver’s license - Class G - with access to a personal vehicle for use (Mileage Reimbursed)
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
