Summary
The Distribution Supervisor will provide leadership, oversight, quality performance, and work scheduling for all mechanics and contractors. The Distribution Supervisor will oversee the maintenance and repair of all equipment, piping, valves, meters, other equipment, and expansion joints associated with the distribution system from the plants to and inside the customer facilities. This is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Plant Manager. This position is located in Kansas City, MO.
Responsibilities
- Ensures that proper maintenance is completed on all assigned customer services, non-customer piping systems, and equipment located on department trucks for P6 service work.
- Maintains a cost-effective inventory control for department and initiates purchasing requisitions and approvals.
- Administers Collective Bargaining Agreement and company policies to direct reports.
- Oversees direct reports to ensure compliance with company operating and safety procedures. Instruct employees to use safety equipment necessary to perform the job in a safe and timely manner.
- Maintains safe working conditions, identifies and corrects or reports unsafe conditions in work areas.
- Oversees welding, soldering, and burning as required for manhole fabrication.
- Plans, schedules, and implements daily operational activities and sets priorities in scheduling outages for maintenance and capital projects.
- Schedules manpower, material and equipment necessary for task completion, identifies and sets priorities for daily activities including but not limited to monitoring of MO One Call system.
- Provides job training for all employees in several areas including but not limited to safety and job development.
- Communicates timely and relevant information to distribution management, direct reports and others as situations necessitate.
- Reviews equipment reports, identifies problem areas and suggests and or develops problem solutions for equipment or system issues.
- Interfaces with employees in other departments, customers, other utilities, government agency representatives and the general public.
- Provides logs, writes procedures, writes reports and updates procedures and reports as needed and forwards all requests to the Plant Manger for review.
- Takes emergency calls on weekends, holidays and outside of regular business hours.
- Demonstrates leadership with department employees of various knowledge levels.
- Prepares performance appraisals of direct reports as applicable.
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion of employee timesheets.
- Ensures housekeeping duties are assigned.
- Enter manholes as required to check on assigned work that has been done due to maintenance regarding the manhole piping and components, this also includes outage work or engineering provided repairs.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years' experience working with power plant maintenance or heavy industrial industry with the understanding of metric related and reliability centered maintenance and efficient cost controls.
- Technical or trade school graduate.
- Associate’s degree in engineering, HVAC, construction, business, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years' supervisory experience managing maintenance in an industrial or power plant setting.
- Thorough understanding of the principles of steam and the operation of valves, pumps, truck-mounted electrical systems, expansion joint / trap repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems including controls.
- Thorough understanding of the principles and safety precautions required for overseeing proper maintenance of manhole equipment and safety.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, technical manuals, and policy.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience dealing with multiple direct reports preferably in a union setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to prioritize workload, be detail oriented in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management, organization and prioritization capability, communication and organizational skills.
- Willingness to take after-hours calls or support emergency response when needed.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with customers during outages, maintenance activities, and system issues representing the company with clear, courteous, and timely communication.
- Must submit to company required pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
- The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate because of their work around potential hazards such as loud noise, airborne particles, vibration, and hazardous materials. This protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, safety eyewear, footwear, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and specialized clothing where applicable.
- Must be able to work in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Must be able to work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at other company sites.
- Must be able to tolerate dust and other airborne particles and other materials such as diesel and lube oils.
- Under certain conditions while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator – respirators are required in specified areas, therefore the employee will be issued with and trained in the proper use of this equipment.
- Must be able to traverse the streets, sidewalks, and alleys for several city blocks.
- Must adhere to personal hygiene grooming standards from a safety perspective.
- May require repetitive stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying; intermittent lifting, and moving up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
