Job Summary
The Distribution Safety Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining a proactive, safety-focused work environment for all distribution operations. This position ensures that field crews follow internal safety protocols and comply with regulatory requirements while working on energized and de-energized systems. This is a hands-on, field-facing role designed for someone who knows the real work, leads by example, and understands the urgency and hazards of our industry.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety programs within the organization. Ensures compliance with safety regulations, conducts risk assessments, and investigates incidents and accidents. May provide training on safety procedures, maintain safety records, and conduct safety inspections.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
•Conduct regular field safety audits and on-site assessments of distribution projects and assess safety concerns.
•Coach and mentor foremen, linemen, and apprentices on safe work practices and procedures.
•Participate in pre-job briefings and tailboard talks to reinforce risk awareness and mitigation strategies.
•Support crews with real-time decision-making regarding energized work, PPE use, and equipment setup.
•Assist with the verification of work task competence.
•Assist with the research and development and delivery of presentations for employee meetings regarding safety, CPR, first-aid, and defensive driving.
•Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
•Assist with the completion of production tasks in storm restoration or other circumstances.
•Maintain safety performance records, compile field reports, and provide feedback to leadership for continuous improvement.
•Collaborate with other departments to achieve desired results.
•Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Training, and Project Management to ensure job-site readiness.
•Represent Electra Grid Solutions during customer safety audits and project meetings as needed.
•All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
•High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
•Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field is preferred.
•Experience with a wide variety of utility tasks and settings, preferably including both primary and secondary voltages in the overhead settings.
•Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, NEC and other applicable safety regulations and professional standards.
•Experience in CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens, Bucket Rescue, Tree Canopy Rescue, Defensive Driving, Hazcom, and DOT Flagging
•General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
•Experience effectively facilitating and leading meetings involving individuals at various levels of the organization.
•Experience in the design, development, and implementation of employee training programs.
•Incident investigation procedures including interviewing individuals involved in incidents.
•Advanced conflict resolution skills.
•Experience in project management preferred.

Working Conditions
•Work is performed from the field with a company vehicle. Traveling short/long distances between crews on a daily basis.
•Valid driver’s license is required and ability to travel to job sites and regional offices.
•May be required to respond during after-hours events.
•May be required to assist with departmental related tasks during storm restoration work.
•Some overnight travel may be required.
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods—often on uneven ground or active job sites.
•Ability to climb ladders and occasionally access elevated work areas (bucket trucks, structures, etc.).
•Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs when needed (tools, gear, safety equipment).
•Consists of frequent sedentary work. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds often.
•Substantial movements of the hands, wrists, and/or fingers.
•Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions—heat, cold, rain, wind. May be required to work in extreme weather conditions.
•Comfortable wearing required PPE including FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and fall protection.
•Must have full range of motion for physical demonstrations and assisting crews with safety techniques.
•Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures or viewing a computer screen.
