The
Distribution Safety Specialistplays a key role in supporting a proactive, safety-first culture across Electra Grid Solutions’ distribution operations. This
hands-on, field-based role ensures compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirementswhile providing real-time guidance and mentorship to crews working on energized and de-energized systems. The specialist serves as a trusted advisor,
promoting safe work practices,conducting audits, leading incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and enhance operational performance.
- Conduct regular field safety audits and on-site inspections of distribution projects and facilities.
- Observe work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA, NFPA, and NEC standards.
- Coach and mentor foremen, linemen, and apprentices on proper safety procedures, PPE use, and hazard mitigation techniques.
- Participate in daily pre-job briefings (tailboards) and reinforce hazard recognition, job planning, and risk reduction strategies.
- Support field crews in real-time decision-making related to energized work, grounding, and equipment setup.
- Assist with the verification of task competence and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
- Develop and deliver safety presentations and training sessions on topics such as CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving, and Hazard Communication.
- Participate in incident and near-miss investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and assist in developing corrective actions.
- Maintain safety performance records, field reports, and tracking data for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Operations, Training, and Project Management teams to ensure job-site readiness and safety compliance.
- Represent Electra Grid Solutions during customer safety audits, project meetings, and regulatory interactions as needed.
- Provide support during storm restoration, emergency response, and after-hours events when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational and safety excellence.
- Complete random DOT and rapid drug screenings for crews as needed (training provided if not currently certified).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field experience in distribution or utility operations.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, NEC, and other applicable safety regulations; OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Certification or training in CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Bucket Rescue, Defensive Driving, and HazCom preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting safety inspections, training, and incident investigations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills across all organizational levels.
- Proven ability to analyze data, identify safety trends, and recommend effective solutions.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel daily to multiple job sites across assigned areas.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and during storm events.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven ground and active job sites.
- Must be able to climb ladders and access elevated work areas (buckets, poles, or structures).
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. when required (tools, PPE, or safety equipment).
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Comfortable wearing FR clothing, a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and fall protection.
- Work involves exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Must maintain a full range of motion for physical demonstrations or assisting crews.
- Close visual acuity is required for computer work, data analysis, and field observation.
- Field-based role requiring daily travel between multiple distribution job sites.
- Work performed in all weather conditions and around high-voltage environments.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- May be called upon to assist during storm restoration or after-hours events.
