DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER
Level 1 or Level 2
JOB SUMMARY
The Distribution Engineer position requires an individual to manage daily engineering work activities in an assigned HQ or in a project based environment.
•The candidate’s main responsibility is to design, estimate, and coordinate construction of "Capital" and "O&M" power distribution system projects. The projects involve overhead and underground designs to provide electrical service for new business residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
•The successful candidate must provide superior customer service and be able to prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with compliance requirements.
•Other duties will include handling customer inquiries such as power outage complaints, voltage complaints, damage claims, assisting with Distribution Compliance and Asset Management programs.
•The candidate will also participate in storm restoration efforts and must be available after business hours to work on storm duty or special projects requests.
•The right candidate must be an initiative-taker, excellent communicator, critical thinker and able to make sound decisions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience for a Distribution Engineer position (Level 1 or 2):
•Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or General)
•Certifications: EIT (FE) or Professional Engineer's License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor's degree is a plus.
•Previous distribution engineering experience is a plus.
•Distribution and/or related engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus.
Level 1
•0 – 1 years of progressive engineering experience or equivalent academic education and experience.
•Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization. Engineer basic distribution designs, manage projects until construction is completed and revise financials for project close-out.
Level 2
•1 – 3 years of progressive engineering experience.
•Ability to propose solutions and to present projects for budget approval with confidence to influence and persuade leadership in decision making.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Strong technical engineering skills and understanding of power systems is highly desired.
•Proficiency with MS office products and other related engineering software systems is highly desired.
•Broad knowledge of general engineering and construction principles is desired.
•Previous knowledge of electrical system operations and distribution systems design (including overhead and underground construction practices) is desired.
•Ability to prioritize and organize work.
•Manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
•Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.
•Ability to collaborate with customers and others as a team member.
•Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners, and line crew personnel.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
•Good attitude and ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
•Working knowledge of NEC and NESC.
•Must have valid driver’s license and a vehicle.
