Summary
The Dispatcher will field customer phone calls/requests for delivery and pickup of scrap metal while working directly with the Transportation Logistics Manager (TLM), Operations, Customers, Managers and Buyer/Traders. Dispatcher will be responsible for transferring call/text information into the dispatch software in order to create the final dispatch form for the following day. Additional duties include performing administrative tasks for managers and supervisors upon request.

Essential Job Functions
•Dispatch 15-25 Company and Broker trucks per day.
•Create daily dispatch sheet for drivers using PC based program.
•Able to work with 3rd party carriers to move our/customer material in a timely manner.
•Responsible for communicating with drivers and customers via phone or email for dispatching.
•Responsible for relaying work orders, route rescheduling to the drivers.
•Responsible for keeping track of the driver's location and a number of hours driven to make sure driver leaves/arrives on time for scheduled freight appointments.
•Minimizing empty miles, maximizing revenue-generating miles by thinking outside of the box.
•Updating delivery/pickup spreadsheet throughout the day.
•Maintain professional relationships with customers via phone and email.
•Constant communication/interaction with driver, Carriers, Operations, Customers, Managers and Buyer/Traders.
•Complete forms and spreadsheets as assigned.
•Approve and process freight invoices accurately.
•Ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual paperwork/reports are completed and on time.
•Prioritize calls according to urgency and importance
•Process customer orders and assist with developing delivery schedules
•Customer service support; promptly respond to emails and phone inquiries
•Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
•High school diploma or GED
•2+ years of experience working within a transportation department, dispatching and office experience.
•2+ years customer service experience speaking directly with customers via phone/email.
•Industry experience in scrap, metal preferred but not required.
•Working knowledge of the delivery area.
•Ability to multi-task as well as take the appropriate action with little or no supervision.
•Ability to handle stressful situations.
•Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
•Attention to detail and accuracy.
•Experienced using Microsoft Office with and proficient in Excel, and the Internet.
•Comfortable re-prioritizing and changing plans throughout the day based on guidance from Transportation Logistics Manager.
•Ability to follow verbal and written communications.
•Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
•Must be able to work overtime hours as required.
