BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P WS ADMIN - WILDFIRE & RESILIENCE HARDENING STRATEGY Department of the P WILDFIRE & RESILIENCE HARDENING STRATEGY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: DIRECTOR)

JOB FUNCTION:

Leads the planning, coordination, prioritization, and related strategic functions for wildfire mitigation. This also includes Wildfire Safety Strategy (“WSS”) development, development of risk models, technology review, and oversight of performance and compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Wildfire Mitigation Strategy Development

Leads the development of the WSS including determine the overall scope and timing of mitigation plan elements.
Ensures that execution of the work aligns with the strategy across engineering and execution and recommends changes and updates to the plan, as necessary.
Oversees and coordinates the development of risk models related to wildfire strategies including grid hardening, Public Safety Power Shut Off (“PSPS”), and related tasks.
Tracks and monitors the overall compliance to the WSS, targets, and regulatory guidance/requirements to ensure effective execution of wildfire strategies.
Ensures successful completion of WSS targets across the enterprise, quantifies benefits and risk reduction of the plan.


Wildfire Portfolio Management

Provides organizational leadership in defining each area of responsibility’s (i.e., Planning, Risk & Performance, Compliance, and Wildfire Portfolio Management) objectives and goals.
Develops program and outcome metrics, coordinating across each area of responsibility.
Provides regular and ad hoc updates to executive leadership on the wildfire portfolio to facilitate meeting milestones, targets, risks, decision-making, etc.
Supports external program updates on infrastructure investments and reporting requirements.
Manages and supports facilitation of executive governance forums, documents actions, approvals, and recovery plans.
Monitors program performance and makes recommendations and/or facilitates risk trade-off decisions based on financial, resource, or other constraints.
Ensures data accuracy across wildfire documentation needed to demonstrate compliance with WSS and other regulatory or legal requirements.


Department Management

Manages and administers department personnel matters throughout the employment lifecycle including recruitment, development, training, counseling, performance appraisals, compensation/merit increases, recognition, and termination.
Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge Requirements

Extensive knowledge of the planning, design, operational and functional criticality and inter-dependencies of the electrical system.
Extensive knowledge and experience in the management of threats and system risk (i.e., how a simple event can easily escalate into a significant public safety or reliability issue).
Familiarity with risk management, comparing alternatives, and proposing recommendations to manage multiple threats.
Budgeting and forecasting processes (including annual Operating Forecast; Capital Budgets, O&M Budgets; impact on Earnings, etc.).
Extensive knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Safety and Health Manual; Corporate Code of Conduct, etc.


Skills Requirements

Demonstrated risk mitigation capability through years of in-depth analytical and frontline experience in prioritizing and managing safety, reliability, and/or resiliency risks.
Ability to communicate effectively to both internal and external audiences on sensitive matters.
Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to work with people at all levels in the organization to catalyze meaningful change toward an active and concerted asset management approach successfully.
Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills including coaching, mentoring and development of employees, effective written, oral, and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
Administrative skills required for such tasks as preparing, monitoring and analyzing forecasts; preparing performance appraisals and conducting interviews; and carrying out company/department policies and procedures.


Experience Requirements

Extensive (10+) years of experience in operations, planning, engineering, and/or system risk management and mitigation.
Multiple (5+) years of supervisor/leadership experience.
Professional Engineer Registration in State of Hawaii, Electrical Engineering required.

Hiring Range:

The hiring range for the Director, Wildfire Strategy [Req ID 9743] position is $156,300.00 to $207,300.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
