The Center for Energy Workforce Development supports the development of a highly skilled energy workforce by bringing increased visibility and understanding of energy careers and providing pre-employment education and training support. Essential programs and initiatives are led by energy employers, labor, educators and other stakeholders committed to a thriving energy workforce powering our nation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR, STATE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS:

CEWD is looking for an individual with an understanding of workforce development, familiarity with concepts of sector strategies, and familiarity with the energy industry to take the reins of a new position that is being created. The position offers an opportunity to have a profound impact on the development of the energy sector’s talent pipeline.

Other important responsibilities of the Director, State Workforce Development Programs, include:

- Serve as CEWD’s primary interface with all state energy workforce consortia:

- Establish and execute on annual plan of work to support consortia activities, offering guidance on new and big ideas.

- Attend, primarily virtually, meetings of consortia. May attend one-two in-person meetings for some consortia.

- Support expansion of consortia structure by enabling adoption in new areas, where interest warrants.

- Assist existing consortia that want to strengthen their activities and/or membership base, connecting with companies outside the utility space

- Highlight CEWD programming for consortia and engage them for input and development, where appropriate.

- Serve as primary point person for state workforce development activities:

- Develop relationships with select relevant state and regional associations where connections on workforce development are warranted.

- Support grant opportunities for state workforce development programming, including through connection with potential members that could be engaged and when funded, oversee state workforce leads.

- Identify best practices and stories to amplify where stellar programming can be scaled or highlighted.

- Serve as key contact for membership connections, introductions, and conversations around best practices and new topic thinking.

- Facilitate Communities of Practice within CEWD.

- Engage with CEWD educational programming by recommending learning opportunities and engaging potential speakers.

- Provide visible leadership and service to CEWD members and industry practitioners to advance the development of building a highly skilled energy workforce.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Education, Workforce Development, Business, or a related field is required. Equivalent experience is accepted. Master’s degree is preferred.

- 10+ years of experience in workforce development, industry experience is preferred but not required,

- A stellar reputation in the workforce development community,

- Experience as a connector, impact driver, and “go getter”,

- Comfort in working in fast-paced, dynamic and growing organization,

- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills,

- Experience in working with volunteers and servant leadership,

- Understanding of the energy industry, especially the workforce priorities,

- Willingness to travel up to 20-30% of the time.


LOCATION

DMV candidates preferred; remote candidates will be considered.

Compensation

The salary range is $130,000-175,000, target compensation for this role is maxed at $150,000. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. CEWD, through its relationship with EEI, also offers an annual performance incentive which is prorated for mid-year start dates. This incentive is typically up to 10% of the base salary.
