Reporting to the Vice President of Reserves & Mineral Resources, the Director, Process Metallurgy will be part of a technical team providing broad high-level advice and support to Lundin Mining’s executive and operational management.
This role will provide metallurgical and process related leadership and guidance to Lundin’s existing mining operations and their planned expansion projects under the guidance of the Vice President of Reserves and Mineral Resources. This role will involve a significant amount of time spent at our mine sites.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of LOM plan cycle review process
- Support of corporate functions including Business Planning – Budget Reviews, Value Assurance, Full Potential and Business Improvement exercises.
- Advise and provide guidance to operations relative to process optimization initiatives. Providing broad metallurgical and process advice and support to Lundin’s operational management.
- Participate in the study, evaluation, specification, design, construction and commissioning of mill projects and expansions, as required.
- Lead the peer review and auditing of existing metallurgical and processing activities and systems as well as major capital project applications.
- Assist in metallurgical and process-focused due diligence and evaluation of exploration, joint venture, merger or acquisition growth initiatives.
- Lead the evaluation of new leading-edge technologies for base metal flotation and cathode plants and introduce to operations as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of mineral processing standards, guidelines, and best practices by effectively engaging with site representatives.
- Participate in the recruitment, mentoring and professional development of sites’ plant engineers.
- Be a champion of the highest standards of safety and environmental behavior and performance.
- Act as the Qualified Person (QP) and sign off on technical reports as required
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mineral processing or metallurgical engineering.
- Registration as Professional Engineer is preferred.
- Engineering studies and project management experience in the metallurgical and processing field.
- At least 15 years of experience with progressive responsibility, all of which in the mining industry, encompassing both production and a metallurgical technical field.
- Significant exposure to base metals and gold, crushing, grinding, flotation and concentrate dewatering processes with, preferably, experience with treating complex polymetallic sulphide mineralization.
- Familiar with modern metallurgy and process-related software packages.
- A team builder and team player, able to mentor others.
- Experience with working in different cultures in a variety of locations globally. Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese is an asset.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20–30% of the time to mine sites and other locations relevant to the role
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both written and orally.
- Strong personal commitment to health and safety.
- Good analytical and problem solving and decision-making skills.
