Job Description: Overview:
Blackwood Solutions is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Safety and Training to lead our safety and training programs. This senior-level role will oversee the development, implementation, and management of safety protocols and training initiatives to ensure compliance with industry regulations and promote a culture of safety across our operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in logistics, a strong background in safety management, and a proven track record of leading training programs in a dynamic, field-based environment.
Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, federal, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT).
- Leading the design and delivery of training programs for employees, including onboarding, equipment safety, and ongoing professional development.
- Overseeing the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure effective tracking and delivery of training content.
- Managing a team of safety and training coordinators, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Conducting risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborating with HR and operations teams to align safety and training initiatives with recruitment and onboarding processes.
- Monitoring and reporting on safety metrics, incident investigations, and compliance to senior leadership.

- Serving as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external audits related to safety and compliance.
Required Position Qualifications:
The following skills and qualifications are required for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial engineering, human resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills with experience overseeing field-based teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Learning Management Systems.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
