DIRECTOR OF QUALITY, HEALTH, SAFETY, & ENVIRONMENT (QHSE)
Job Title: Director of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)

Position Summary:
The Director of Quality and HSE at Mako Industries is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s Quality and HSE management systems. This role is both strategic and hands-on, ensuring full compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations across all operating divisions—including fabrication, subsea systems, field services, and industrial projects.
This leader will oversee quality control and HSE functions while actively participating in day-to-day operations, inspections, audits, and incident investigations. The ideal candidate will drive a culture of continuous improvement, risk reduction, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Management
•Lead and maintain Mako’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001:2015, ASME, API, and customer-specific standards.
•Develop and manage internal quality procedures, inspection plans, and audit schedules.
•Supervise and mentor QA/QC personnel across shop, field, and project teams.
•Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities for non-conformances.
•Oversee inspection and testing of incoming materials, in-process fabrication, and final products— including subsea connectors, pressure-containing equipment, and electrical assemblies.
•Collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure quality is built into the design and fabrication processes.
•Maintain calibration program and measurement system traceability.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
•Own and manage the company’s HSE program in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and relevant local/state/federal regulations.
•Develop and implement job safety analysis (JSA), hazard identification procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
•Conduct incident investigations, document findings, and lead corrective action implementation.
•Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and safety stand-downs for shop and field personnel.
•Monitor compliance with PPE usage, confined space entry, hot work, and lockout/tagout procedures.
•Maintain all HSE reporting and documentation, including OSHA logs, near-miss reports, and inspection records.
Leadership & Strategic Initiatives
•Serve as the primary contact for customer and third-party quality or safety audits.
•Lead internal and external QHSE audits and management reviews.
•Champion a proactive QHSE culture throughout all departments and job sites.
•Develop KPIs and dashboards to track QHSE performance and identify trends.
•Provide guidance on compliance in international operations (as applicable), including offshore and subsea work.
Daily Operational Involvement
•Conduct in-person shop walkthroughs and field safety visits regularly.
•Review and sign off on inspection records, test reports, and final documentation packages.
•Participate in project kickoff and closeout meetings to ensure QHSE expectations are set and met.
•Provide direct support during critical operations such as hydrotests, electrical terminations, welding, and lifting operations.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field (advanced degree or certifications preferred).
•10+ years of experience in Quality and/or HSE roles within manufacturing, oil & gas, or industrial services.
•Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, OSHA regulations, and ASME/API standards.
•Experience supporting subsea equipment, fabrication, and field operations is strongly preferred.
•Certified Lead Auditor (ISO 9001 or similar) and/or CSP, CQA, or equivalent credential preferred.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office, QMS software, and incident tracking platforms.
•Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
